This is absolutely the greatest thing yet. I can't wait to see a photo of Ben Franklyn or George Washington or news coverage of the French and Indian War. I realize they didn't have video back then, but I have never seen still photos back to 1750. Are they color or black and white?

photos from LIFE's archives, spanning from 1750 to the present interesting.. i didn't know Ye Olde Lyfe Mgazyne had photographers shooting in pre-revolutionary war times.

i read about this yesterday and i'm puzzled. so-called "company sources" say they're going to turn a blind eye towards non-commercial use - which obviously implies that they're going to take the issue of commercial use seriously. but how do they police this? what's stopping me from downloading all the high res photos i want and publishing them? i mean, they can't sue everyone can they?
