Google Hosting Millions of LIFE Images

As Andrew Sullivan simply stated, "Say goodbye to the rest of your day." Google is now hosting an exhausting millions of images from LIFE's archives, "stretching from the 1750s to today." Here are a few NYC gems, and if you're looking for more of old New York, we'd suggest having some search keywords in mind to make it a bit less overwhelming!

This is absolutely the greatest thing yet. I can't wait to see a photo of Ben Franklyn or George Washington or news coverage of the French and Indian War. I realize they didn't have video back then, but I have never seen still photos back to 1750. Are they color or black and white?

interesting.. i didn't know Ye Olde Lyfe Mgazyne had photographers shooting in pre-revolutionary war times.

i read about this yesterday and i'm puzzled. so-called "company sources" say they're going to turn a blind eye towards non-commercial use - which obviously implies that they're going to take the issue of commercial use seriously. but how do they police this? what's stopping me from downloading all the high res photos i want and publishing them? i mean, they can't sue everyone can they?

    cool!
