For the Cash-Strapped, No Love for NY

During these times of economic downturn, what's a young Brooklyn hoodie-designer to do? Turn to the age-old solution of the novelty idea, of course. The Kanye West-approved Clinton Van Gemert, of Head Hoods, used an American Apparel shirt as a blank canvas and created the I Can't Afford to Love NY t-shirt. A sentiment that surely many are feeling right now, but do you have the $14.99 + shipping to let the world know it? Hey, this logo is missing a squirrel! [via Thrillist]

Commence "move back to Ohio" rants -- with all my support and blessings!

The follow up story to this will be the State of New York rightfully suing for trademark infringement.

it's cheaper to make your own t-shirt. geez!

Looks like something Paul Rudd would have worn this past weekend on SNL.

GET A FUCKIN JOB YOU BUM!

its getting harder and harder to be middle-class here. you're either slumming it, living way above your means, or you're making six figures.

I can't afford to buy your lame t-shirt

Move to chicago! We are currently accepting offers from out of work New Yorkers and homeless Detroiters!

Matty is a Chicagoan? You should be banished from the Gothamist boards, carpetbagger!

P.S. The Cubs will break your heart every time... sigh...

How about you poor people just get the hell out of my city?

Well it looks like this economic downturn does have a silver lining for this native NYer, fewer mid-western accents in the coming years.

I don't know why people are saying they should move back to Ohio or other states. The Job situation is even WORSE there, you just might end up homeless or living back at your parents.

At least here you can thrift and live in a surrounding borough or satellite cities.

Are the people who are always complaining about rent all living in Manhattan or the ritzier parts of Brooklyn?

If you can't afford it, STOP WHINING, STOP COMPLAINING.

Do something about it, move to Queens or something.

@Shinobi Shaw, Queens rents are not that cheap either...

"Matty is a Chicagoan? You should be banished from the Gothamist boards, carpetbagger!"

Well I dated a girl from queens so I get honorary status. Them broads is tough!

:D

Also, go White Sox!

#16, then time to move to the Boogie Down.

Hey listen, it's either Staten Island or The Bronx. At least with the latter you'll be close to the city.

Hey all your people there is always Newark. I hear it's the next Brooklyn, albeit the Brownsville section.

Shame the retail sector is tanking - otherwise tee-shirts would be a great idea! Maybe flog them on craiglist. Speaking of, I like the sentiment of non-traditional money-making ideas. I think we'll all have to put up with doing part-time gigs - the type you see on craigslist, or newer, nicer myjambi.com. Maybe if selling tees doesn't work we can get one of their tutoring or pet sitting gigs.

@shinobi:

No no no! don't encourage them! last thing i want is a fuckin pinkberry in Kingsbridge.

$14.99 isn't bad for a t-shirt!
