Brooklyn Shopkeeper Wrestled Gun Away From Robbers

A few more details in the attempted robbery turned shoot-out in Crown Heights. The store's owner, Youssouf Drame, was unarmed; the NY Times reports he "wrested a gun away from one of the men and fatally shot two of them." Employee Drummond Bignott, who was pistol-whipped (Drame was also pistol-whipped but grabbed the man's gun), told Newsday, "He took the guy's gun. Everyone started shooting. He saved my life." Drame, who was shot in the stomach and remains in critical condition, will probably not face charges since he acted in self-defense; his wife said, "Nothing surprises me about what he did. He's a brave man - the gun would not scare him." Two other suspects in the robbery are still at large.

Actually I believe the robbers are carrying weapons for self defense against the store owners.

There is a Yemenite family in my hood that owns several bodega's and they pack all sorts of weapons beneath the counter, wooden baseball bats, tire irons, shot guns—I wouldn't want to be a thief trying to rip them off.

Don't be surprised if robbers start adopting a shoot first and empty the register later MO.

Wow, this guy was able to get the gun from one dirtball and fatally shoot two of them. All with the bullets that were left in the gun. Sounds like this guy should be teaching NYPD firearms courses, he could save the taxpayers thousands of dollars in wasted bullets.

I wish he did have a gun behind the counter, the extra time would would have enabled him to pick off all three of these scumbags.

A lot of these shopkeepers and deli owners are pretty tough. They come from all over the world and don't take shit from anyone. I always wonder how they can operate 24 hour delis in some of the worst fucking areas-they got balls. Good for this guy.

Wow, that was ballsy. Dangerous, to be sure, I'm glad it *kind of* worked out. In that he's not dead. But wrestling the gun away from one of the guys and killing two of 'em with one of their guns? Badass.
