3-Alarm Fire in the Bronx, Subway Service Affected

2008_11_bxfire.jpgFox 5 reports that over 140 firefighters are working to put out a three-alarm fire at a Bronx strip mall. Apparently the fire started at Urrego Alba Cleaners at 1105 Southern Boulevard and spread to other stores. Due to the FDNY activity, the 2 and 5 trains are suspended in both directions from 149th Street-3rd Avenue to East 180th Street, bypassing Jackson Avenue, Prospect Avenue, Intervale Avenue, Simpson Street, Freeman Street, East 174th Street, West Farms-East Tremont Avenue and East 180th. The MTA says customers should take the BX4, BX 19 or BX 21 bus for those stops--and to "Please expect delays in services on the 2 and 5 trains at this time."
