New Leaf Cafe, in the middle of Fort Tryon park, has surroundings that can't be beat. It's in a gorgeous stone building, it's small, intimate, great food and service... probably best to go anytime except for the winter to get the full affect of your surroundings. There's a reason so many people want to have their wedding party here.

The Ear Inn on Spring Street. It's lighting is low and there is usually a table available in the back for that romantic tete-a-tete.

i don't find Belleville very romantic and the service has been pretty bad the times I've been there. A lousy waiter and forgotten drink orders can sour a good mood pretty quick. In Brooklyn, I give my romantic dining vote to Convivium Osteria, also on 5th Avenue.

My husband and I have always had a great time at Hangawi. But it is vegetarian (but that shouldn't turn folks off!) and it is pricey. It's definitely a night out, great if you couple it with a broadway show. Granted, we don't get out much anymore (baby) so it's been years since we've been there.

Blue Hill-- easily the nicest place for a romantic dinner, and pretty affordable compared to the other high-quality places, like Grammercy Tavern.

I like the River Cafe suggestion. I'll go with that. I've only been during the day, but I imagine the views would be even nicer at night.
