I like the River Cafe suggestion. I'll go with that. I've only been during the day, but I imagine the views would be even nicer at night.

One if by Land, Two if by Sea

Blue Hill-- easily the nicest place for a romantic dinner, and pretty affordable compared to the other high-quality places, like Grammercy Tavern.

My husband and I have always had a great time at Hangawi. But it is vegetarian (but that shouldn't turn folks off!) and it is pricey. It's definitely a night out, great if you couple it with a broadway show.

Granted, we don't get out much anymore (baby) so it's been years since we've been there.

i like apizz on eldridge. romantic lighting and decor. always a solid meal and a good wine selection.

i don't find Belleville very romantic and the service has been pretty bad the times I've been there. A lousy waiter and forgotten drink orders can sour a good mood pretty quick.

In Brooklyn, I give my romantic dining vote to Convivium Osteria, also on 5th Avenue.

I nominate Aurora in Williamsburg, as long as someone else is paying. If it's on me, you can't beat Supercore a stone's throw away.

Whole Foods in Columbus Circle.

Coppola's on 79th off Amsterdam.
Great Italian food, intimate space. It's where we spend our anniversary's.

Capsouto Freres. Beautiful, spacious room, gracious service, delicious food, terrific wine list, great
prices.

Go there.

Now!

In Vino in the East Village is my fav, great food and wine, and a cozy wine cellar feel.

Aurora is nice! Second that. But expect a long wait unless they take reservations? I can't remember. We waited the two times we went there.

Aliseo Osteria del Borgo in Brooklyn

The Ear Inn on Spring Street. It's lighting is low and there is usually a table available in the back for that romantic tete-a-tete.

New Leaf Cafe, in the middle of Fort Tryon park, has surroundings that can't be beat. It's in a gorgeous stone building, it's small, intimate, great food and service... probably best to go anytime except for the winter to get the full affect of your surroundings. There's a reason so many people want to have their wedding party here.

Chanterelle in TriBeCa is an amazing place for a fancy date

river's edge in lic. a true getaway in the city with that gigantic view.

OH! I want to change my answer!!!
Acqua Santa in Williamsburg but only in the summer when the courtyard is open.

Leonards of Great Neck for its food and ambience. And reasonable prices.
