Senator Lieberman Remains Homeland Security Committee Chair

2008_11_lieber.jpgSenator Joe Lieberman, whose support of Republican candidate John McCain raised the ire of Senate Democrats, was allowed to keep his chairmanship of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. He was, however, ousted from the less showy Environment and Public Works Committee, a move the NY Times characterized as a "a slap on the wrist compared with the prospect of losing the homeland security leadership post." While many Democrats wanted to strip Lieberman of both committees, President-elect (and Senator!) Obama said he wanted Lieberman to remain in the Democratic caucus (Lieberman is an independent who caucuses with the Dems). After the Democratic caucus voted, Lieberman said of his anti-Obama comments, "There are some that I made that I wish I had not made at all."

Disappointing. Lieberman is a snake.

What a bunch of wimps the Dems are! Sure, yeah, he'll help for a 60-person majority (IF the other 3 elections are won by Dems), but otherwise he's useless and unpredictable.

Seriously! This idiot warmonger Lieberman can campaign for the GOP nominee, can badmouth Obama repeatedly, and still maintain his chairmanship! These Dems need to stop being such wusses and grow a pair.

How dare this guy have an opposing viewpoint on a topic or two! Burn all those who dissent!

(sigh)
It would be nice if the Democratic Leadership would grow a backbone...

Amazing. Former Sen. Zel Miller would have been punished for the same thing in 2004, but Sen. Lieberman? Not so much.

If it walks like a republican, talks like a republican, votes like a republican and campaigns like a republican, it's a fucking republican. Harry Reid better start looking for a new job.

Awful.
Lieberman will just continue to speak to groups of religous zealots in exchange for money and he'll continue to stab the Democrats in the back.
Ridiculous. Lieberman's only constituency is comprised of his fellow, frightened middle-of-the-road Democratic Senators.

Fredo...don't ever take sides against the Family again.

Leave the gun.
Take the ruggalach.

in 2010 when the dems pick up a few more seats he will be dropped

#4, Lieberman campaigned with McCain frequently, was likely McCain's top VP choice, and spoke at the Republican National Convention against Obama. Oh, and he also has a vested interest in continuing the Iraq War since he's tied to companies that manufacture military equipment.

It's one thing to make efforts to show bi-partisanship, but why keep a slimeball in your party, in charge of important committees AND who's part of the problem in Washington?

The idea that reaching that magic number of 60 senate seats (3 races are still being decided, plus Lieberman) will clinch Obama' entire agenda is preposterious. Of course there will always be fellow democrats that don't agree, and yes, there are republicans that will vote for some of Obama's proposals.

Disappointing. Lieberman's a dick.

Nice one #8.

Oh, and Lieb can go take a flying leap into the Grand Canyon.

I swear to god Washington has turned into Hollywood East: "Just because we hate each other doesn't mean we're not friends" Disgusting.

I fear for Joe's life because the cult of Obama followers are furious that he didn't drink the Kool-Aid. In the age of Obama everyone must obey!

I hate that gremlin as much as anyone, but whatever. He's on a leash now and he knows it. We can use him until he makes a misstep, and then cut him loose. No sense in throwing away a usable tool, I guess.

I may be rich or unlucky enough to
live one day in Connecticut and vote this wimp &
quisling out of office.

Lieberman is a rat. The Dems should have castrated this asshole, such that for the years he remains in office he just sits there like a stinking piece of shit on the floor of the Senate.

But calling Lieberman a stinking piece of shit is an insult to human excrement.

what the use of fighting for a Democracy where the leaders time and time again flaunt and ignore what the people want? Its absurd, really.

Liberman can't be trust, he will sell top secrets

A jew running the Gestapo. Only in Amerika.

Sweet fucking Jesus. There is no point to letting him keep his chairmanship. And all I can do about it is write unhappy letters to people, which will have no effect whatsoever. Goddamn I hate the Democratic Party.
