A little cold water on the excited reports that Hillary Clinton will be--or is close to being--the next Secretary of State: Politico suggests that Clinton might not even want the job. A Clinton insider says, "A lot of the speculation and reporting is out ahead of the facts here. She is still weighing this, independent of President Clinton's work." Apparently NY's junior senator is "torn" between being a member of Obama's "Team of Rivals" and her Senate work, like helping "pass health care and work on a broad range of domestic issues," which Politico says "jibes with what others close to Clinton have been saying since the Secretary of State chatter began last week: that Clinton is conflicted and the deal far from done, despite screaming headlines in outlets including the U.K.’s Guardian newspaper claiming the offer was made and accepted." Still, Bill Clinton thinks his wife would be "really great as secretary of state"--that is, if Obama "decided to ask her."

It's difficult to imagine that a politician of her ambition would not want to represent the United States on the world's stage.

She'd have much more power and authority as Senate Majority Leader.
but if she were to be the secretary of state, she would be more invested in a positive outcome for the administration - meaning no run for the presidency in 2012 if Obama fails. i just can't imagine that she wouldn't have misgivings about giving up on that possibility (not necessarily assuming that would be the primary factor in her decision though).
#2 wins the pot. Hillary should go after Harry Reid's job as Majority Leader. He's awful and she would at least look better than him in pantsuits.
Bring me that Bill Richardson...
#2 and #4, I agree that Reid lacks leadership qualities and should be replaced. However, there are many democrats that served much more time in the Senate that are more deserving than Hillary for the leadership position.
#3, I believe the window has closed on Hill as president since she'll be in her late 60s in 2016. (Obama is the incumbent in 2012). I don't even see Obama naming her VP in 2012 when Biden will likely retire or be asked to leave.
She should stay in the Senate, where she is doing some good.
Hillary Clinton should be shipped back to Arkansas. She is a phony sack of shit.
Isn't a secretary supposed to be good looking? Imagine watching Hill bending over to pick up a dropped file: oh the humanity!
a/ she already has international experience swapping spit with Suha Arafat and Wiener's beard, Huma.
b/ Bill would be able to use her appointment to grab even more foreign gash / cash as they travel the world (this could be a problem for THE ONE as he will again need major international $ to run his 2012 run for leader for life).
c/ it's not a stepping stone to the WH, it's a skipping stone to the UN where she can eventually rule the world.
If health care is her big issue (and it appears to be), Secretary of State is not the office for her.
