Rob: Stevens isn't the chair of anything, as the GOP isn't in power in the Senate. And he's not even Ranking Member of the Commerce Committee, though he is still the RM of the Full Committee Subcommittee of the Commerce Committee (that's for real.. no wonder the guy gets confused talking about the internet).

@MT Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that half the population of Alaska voted for a man who was convicted of corruption? WTF?!? It's the same logic that gets Sheldon Silver reelected by insular, siege-mentality, coots and biddys in his district: "Shyelly Seelvah's a kyed frum da neighbahood! Oy! Such a good boy!" And frankly the same logic that forgives Bill Clinton for being an adulterer. (It drove me up the wall to see all that awesome political capital frittered away.)

It's not that weird if you don't like his opponent and you assume that in all likelihood Stevens would have to resign anyway. The governor is a Republican so you would essentially be voting to keep the seat in Republican hands, not necessarily voting for a felon.

@Dude69--I thought this was interesting because there was talk of whether Sarah Palin would appoint herself to his seat, if Stevens were re-elected. And also the idea that the election vote-counting was taking so long. There have been posts on the Gothamist that are quite obviously out of scope, but this post absolutely takes the cake (and don't try to use Palin or Franken as a link to the NY relation angle either). I REALLY hope you're not trying to be CNN since I am sure most readers don't come here expecting to read about Ted Stevens, a Senator that no one outside of Alaska know until this election. I am sure there are still plenty of NY related news to post here in place of this.

I read this first on Anchorigist.com Oh, no, wait, I did not. I just made that up. But if you google Alaska blog (without quotation marks), you won't find this story in the top 10.
