While the death rattle has been audible for quite some time, Viacom only officially announced Total Request Live's retirement in September, and yesterday they officially faded to black.
So while the corpse of Total Request Live is barely cold, the NY Times just isn't ready to say goodbye. They're asking their readers to send in their fondest memories of Carson Daly & Co. (who knew the Gray Lady and MTV teen screamfest had a crossover audience?).
How is everyone else coping? Jezebel commemorates the end of a "mediocre era" with a look at the finale fashions; the Daily News recaps the star-studded event (which included appearances by Snoop Dogg, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and...you get the picture); and Greasy Guide documents the scene.
What's that...what's our favorite TRL moment? Probably that time Justin Timberlake was made to identify animal mating sounds.

The show was cool from 1998 'till about 2002. It has been sucky ever since!
This show was made popular by the teenybopper craze of the late 90's and early '00s.
Once that went out of style, the show did as well.
It no longer fits.
You know my biggest gripe about this show was that they never showed a complete video. It would be a minute, minute-in-a-half tops. I mean, the music sucked, but still.
In 2000, I worked down the block from TRL's Viacom/MTV headquarters. Deep within my office building, you could hear the screams of those kids who would gather in front of TRL's HQ. That was kind of eerie.
The show great from 1998 until Sept 2001 when Carson started to slowly stop hosting the show.

#1- teenybopper fase never goes away. it just comes and goes. It's back with a vengeance now with miley cyrus and jonas brothers. It's just Disney knows how to sell kid pornography better than anyone else now. Vag pictures of vanessa hudgens tops anything on TRL.
