EVENT: The NYPL wants to remind you of "When the City Celebrated Itself" with an event on The New York City Golden Jubilee of 1948, with Manhattan Borough Historian Michael Miscione. "Most New Yorkers are familiar with the legendary world’s fairs of 1939 and 1964, but who remembers the New York City Golden Jubilee of 1948? How the city celebrated itself during this summer-long citywide commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the consolidation of the five boroughs will be recounted and presented with rarely seen photographs, newsreel footage, sound recordings, and memorabilia from the celebration." Ah, glory days.

THEATER: Theater for the New City's "New City, New Blood" reading series continues tonight with the intriguingly titled new play Wonder Woman Wears Raggedy Ann Pajamas by Karina Arroyave. The story concerns Sophie Andrades, a neurotic 30-year-old recovering-alcoholic actress who tries to escape following in her mother’s self-destructive footsteps by confronting the pain of her past. Her mother, Chula, is an outspoken, intelligent, Republican-hating, agoraphobic, somewhat-functioning alcoholic and we are taken into her journey during this critical time." Wine and cheese are promised. – John Del Signore
