NYC Lebowski Fest '08 At Lucky Strike Lanes in Pictures

Over 700 nerds achievers descended upon Lucky Strike Lanes over on 12th Avenue and 42nd Street last night for the 4th NYC Lebowski Fest. The extravaganza, which came on the heels of Saturday night's sold-out concert and The Big Lebowski screening at Irving Plaza, featured a costume contest, profligate consumption of White Russians, amateurish bowling, and incessant shouts of "Over the line!" Sort of a Star Trek convention for party people, the Lebowski Fest has become an international phenomenon since its humble beginnings in Louisville in 2002, when Will Russell and his pal Scott Shuffitt drew a spontaneous crowd of "Lebowski" quoters at a tattoo convention. Here's our interview with Russell from last week, and here's The F%#king Short Version of The Big Lebowski. Well, enjoy!

i've only watched the first 15 minutes of lebowski and it sucked. does it get better?

I thought the same the first time I saw it, but it's one of those movies that gets better with repeat viewings.

At least according to the new shit that's come to light.

Worst Bunny Lebowski ever.

BH and JM: that's just, like, your opinion, man.

It is a great movie, in my opinion, because it depicts a very strange a funny world of interesting and unlikely characters. Walter Sobchek, played by John Goodman, being one of the best.

Baby Hitler, you're out of your element.

zodak, this has nothing to do with hipsters. You're joking right?

Most overrated movie ever.

Where are the West Nile Virus mosquitoes when you need them?

I also thought it sucked the first time I saw it, and have grown to love it on repeated viewings.

Favorite bit - the homage to North By Northwest, where the Dude grabs a notepad and shades it in in order to find out what the bad guy wrote on it.

I am absolutely, positively shocked that BH is not a fan. You'd think he's eat that shit up.

Seriously BH, you should watch the film. John Goodman and John Turtorro are HI-larious.

That's freaking awesome! Those are some terrible costumes though.

The Dude abides.

It's one of those movies you either love (love love love) or are kind of whatever about.

I'm of the latter.

BL was a great movie - very original, a great cast and funny as shit.

I dont understand this websites message boards obsession with categorizing things as "hipster" or "non-hipster"

This little gathering seems somewhat ridiculous, not for me but yet these people dont seem to take themselves to seriously. Just couple morons having a good time...Live and let live.

Also that is the worst ass I think I've ever seen on a woman. *shudders*

I said I only watched the first 15 minutes but now that it's got a bowling festival named after it I guess I gots to finish it. I'm a big Coen Bros. fan. My favorite movie from them is O brother where are thou cause of the preston sturges Sullivan's Travels link. It's just the first 15 minutes of lebowski was just soooo bad.

See, now, I'm a huge Coen Bros. fan as well, and O Brother left me cold. I thought it was way too elbow-nudgingly broad. The music was good, though.

And hey, who knows, I might like it better if I saw it again...

The movie is best while laying on a 420 yoga mat.

I'd rather have a Raising Arizona party.

There's sumthin wrong with mah semen.

I was there, and it's an amazing festival. Like I told NYT, it's like a Trekkie Convention. For Alcoholics.

Not sure why you'd take the time to comment on a post about a movie that you think sucks, by the way. Oh, wait, I know why: you're a shut-in.

And another thing, Gothamist: there were some amazing costumes there. You managed to capture the lower 1/3 of them.

Obviously, you're not a golfer.

The cast, the soundtrack, the humor, all lend themselves to making this movie a cult classic. Maybe I'm biased, because my pix is here, with my girl. I've been to everyone in NY and, in the parlance of our time, I've loved them all. I still hate the f*cking Eagles!!!
