British Paper: Hillary Clinton to be Obama's Secretary of State

2008_11_hrcbho.jpgBritish newspaper the Guardian reports, "Hillary Clinton plans to accept the job of secretary of state offered by Barack Obama, who is reaching out to former rivals to build a broad coalition administration," according to its sources. However, there are concerns regarding the vetting of former President Bill Clinton, not to mention possible conflicts--Politico points out, "it could prove problematic for Obama if the former president continues to arrange donations from foreign countries at the same time that his wife, as secretary of state, is asking them for diplomatic concessions." Clinton friend James Carville told the Washington Post, "There's a lot of momentum in the direction of this happening," but acknowledged the Bubba factor: "She's not married to Todd Palin."

^ She "heard" gunfire in Sarajevo.

No one can deny that she is qualified, capable and incredibly good at her job.

What exactly are her qualifications to be Secretary of State? I don't mean that in a snarky way. Seriously, what are her qualifications? Do you really believe there is nobody better qualified?

"She's not married to Todd Palin." = James Carville is still a funny mf-er....

#15 "No one can deny that she is qualified, capable and incredibly good at her job."

What exactly are her major accomplishments in the senate besides spending most of the last 7 years chasing the democrat nomination?

British Paper: Thanks for all the ad views :)

I hope not just because she's a powerful senator and she should do the job that she campaigned for in this state and that the people of NY elected her to do. I can understand leaving to become president, but if all you're getting is a cabinet position then she owes it to the people here to at least finish out her term of office.

"Can the Dems really afford to lose the Senatorial presence of Obama, Biden AND Clinton all at once?"

Good point. Who knows who the replacements are going to be and their capabilities. Keep her in the Senate.

I voted Obama, but I'm not a Hillary hater -- I see this as a smart decision. No one can deny that she is qualified, capable and incredibly good at her job. The key is to have her as your ally, not your enemy.

Clinton has been less effective at advancing the cause of war and imperialism in the Senate than she might be as Secretary of State, so I favor keeping her there. Not that it is going to make much difference. If she is appointed, I hope Slick will be too busy, if you know what I mean, to hang around the White House.

I can't take all this 'change'. What next, is Obama going to get Ross and Rachel back together?

He should make her Postmaster General so she can do less damage.

PRO-TIP: British Media needs to mind their own business.

Okay, I get the involvement of Hillary as a cabinet member. She's been in the White House, seen shit from the inside, and is generally a sharp political mind. It's a good way to bridge gaps and get a variety of opinions and experience.

What I do not get: Secretary of State? Seriously? Of all the seats to fill, of all the bones you could throw her, she gets the meatiest? The chick who spent months telling us you ain't shit for leading? She lost a massive lead in a month, then pandered to shiteating yokels to try regaining momentum. That qualifies for secretary of the top administration department? Be real, B-rock. Why not, I don't know, Labor?

In conclusion: I am okay with this. But only if Obama begins assigning his own Bush-esque nicknames to the cabinet, and refers to Hillary primarily as "Coyote Ugly".

It's the Clinton White House all over again!

It's very shrewd of Obama to remove Hillary from the Senate and place her in his cabinet.

  • SeasTooFarToReach

nope, read the politico article, but everyone is reporting her as "first choice"

I'm not sure Secretary of State would be the right position for Hillary, but I'm certain she will have an important role in Obama's administration.

The Clintons have been fighting full financial disclosure since day 1 of Hillary's campaign. I'm wondering what are they hiding?

  • dr zippy

Has he offered her the job?

Wait -- you just commented here, so does that apply to you too? Sh*t. Me too!
