Some people would say that the best way to get a lot of cops to you quickly when you're in trouble is to report "Officer down!" to 911.

I still say it was NYPD publicity overkill and unneeded. Yes after the fact,the perp was caught right away,looks good on the news though. I don't think the Prez.of Pakistan was the target unless he and his wife were shopping for jewelry. My common sense was sharpened being downtown when 9-11 happened right dere at City Hall going to vote in the primary.Boom!

I can't say this was an acceptable outcome, because the retired detective was shot and he and his family are suffering. The perp should get the max, I think it's 25 to life and that should do it. Now, let's go after the guys who were responsible for arming him.

@westside: You think they they call the cops to punch in once they know about an incident? There was a shooting during an armed robbery in a famed NYC institution, while the president of Pakistan was within earshot. The perp had multiple firearms, and shot an innocent former police officer. If you think this is unusual or unnecessary, you need some common sense. This does not cost the city one extra cent, as these police officers are already on patrol 24/7, for exactly this reason; so they can respond in force to any situation that jumps off.

Kind off looks like a little bit of overkill in the use of this many cops when the perp was already caught at the crime scene. I guess we are not too broke after all.
