Ex-Yank Leyritz Denies Full Culpability for DUI Crash

2008_11_leyritz.jpgIn an interview with today's Daily News, ex-Yankee Jim Leyritz talks about what a turn for the worse his life has taken since being arrested for manslaughter following a DUI accident last December. But Leyritz, the one-time hero of the 1996 World Series, was not taking full responsibility for the crash. He tells the News, "My light was never red when I entered the intersection. I was not at all responsible for the accident or her death. She went through the light. She hit me." Records show that the victim, Freida Ann Veitch, was also drunk during the accident and had been involved in another drunken crash six months prior. Leyritz's blood alcohol level was found to be 0.14. His trial is scheduled to begin January 12.

At least he did the world a favor by taking another chronic drunk off the road forever.

Jesus, this sounds like the beginning of a bad joke.

Two drunk drivers crash into each other at an intersection, late at night...

Poor baby. I'm sure the other driver would wish her life could be as bad -- instead of ended.

"But she was more drunk than me" Trouble is, she was obeying the rules of the road better than him. Fuck him, he gets prison.

this is a case of bad luck while already taking a tremendous risk by driving f'd up in the first place. still, if it was her fault, then he was simply committing DUI

If the deceased actually did cause the accident then Leyritz should not be facing manslaughter charges.

Don't care how holier than thou you want to play it, if in fact she was responsible then his charges should be reduced to a regular DUI charge.

The other driver already paid the price of drunk driving. Now it's time for this putz to be held accountable.

Here's the lesson folks: once you get behind the wheel drunk, whatever happens, your fault or not, YOU are screwed - and you should be.

Doesn't matter who had the light. He was drunk and driving. Leyritz broke the law.
