Yankees Offer Record Contract to Sabathia

2008_11_sabathiasm.jpgIt’s really good to be CC Sabathia right now. The Yankees, desperate for starting pitching, have opened their negotiations with the free agent by offering the most-lucrative contract ever offered to a pitcher. The Yankee offer is believed to be for six years and $140 million, just a bit more than the Mets gave to Johan Santana earlier this year. And, Sabathia is not expected to accept the proposal because plenty of teams are interested in his services and the bidding will be intense. But, the Yankees have clearly shown they mean business and they are expected to make offers to A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe as well this weekend. One thing is certain, the seven unsold luxury suites at the new Yankee Stadium are not causing the Yankees to lose any sleep.

Sabathia is young and can pitch a lot of innings. He's worth it. He'll be the ace for the next ten years.

Don't be cheap! Double the offer. It's only facebook Texas Hold'em chips anyway. Plus we are in a recession and he needs a job.

Nice negotiating strategy:
Start with a record setting offer.
It can only go up from here.

this offer is dumb. How the hell can you offer more money than johan santana? they should have went for santana last year.

$140 million to play a children's game for six years. This is insane.

Wait till the economic pinch hits MLB and the fans don't buy as much of the overpriced merchandise any more.

All that money for this fat fuck who plays once every five days? If they are lucky he will eat himself into a diabetic coma and they can take that salary off their books.

Please salary cap baseball.

This is totally unfair to small teams like Milwaukee.

Fuck the yankees!

Seriously, Yankee fans should be ashamed of their team's management style.

How much fun is it to have your time buy themselves a playoff spot?

Aren't you sick of this? Last year they didn't even get in to the playoffs despite the 2nd highest payed team in Baseball. Pathetic!

And the Red Sox are turning into the Yankees!

Total crap.

Considering the small market Tampa Rays got to the World Series and small market teams like the Brewers and Twins nearly got to the post-season, fairness isn't really an issue.
