Obama Gives First YouTube Address as President-Elect

President-elect Obama released his first address to the nation via YouTube, a groundbreaking move that is seen as the next step in presidents interacting with the public since FDR began giving fireside chats through the radio waves 75 years ago.

In the brief four-minute weekly Democratic response to the president's radio address, Obama praised the President's efforts in responding to the global economic crisis with the G-20 summit and encouraged Congress to pass legislation "to give the economy the boost it needs." If action isn't taken immediately, Obama said that he would make it his first priority when he takes office in January.

Politico takes a look at the Obama's balancing act as far as his role in relation to G-20, sending representatives on his behalf (including former Secretary of State Madeline Albright) to meet with world leaders during the summit, while at the same time trying not to step on President Bush's toes nor catching flack for any failures of the summit before he has full control over his influence.

Update: Obama released his full Senate resignation letter: "I will never forget, and will forever be grateful, to the men and women of this great state who made my life in public service possible."

That's not change! That's more of the same.

He is putting out his message loud and clear in a 21st century format everyone can get on a computer, laptop or many cellphones. Not only is this easier, but once you put a message out on YouTube, you can't take it back. Or was everyone more comfortable reviewing printouts?

i am optimistic about our new president-elect but it is eerie to me how complete their media package has been since the election. no gaps in coverage or immediacy with younger generations.

crosses over the "too good to be true" boundary for me.

he's even got a basketball in the background next to his law books and the flag all crammed into a 2 foot background.

ps. they disabled comments on youtube! embrace the technology but not what it stands for!

"to give the economy the boost it needs" right into a hole in the ground.

me likey. although, they should have pulled back a little on the camera though. It should have had more flag and definitely needs more potted plant. I gots to have that plant.

Groundbreaking? Billy, you either have some weak standards (perhaps a strong bias?), or you are just not aware... The current President has been releasing podcasts, and downloads of his speeches and press events for literally YEARS now.
I agree that adding youtube is a good thing, but I'd call it an evolution at most.

[Obama] encouraged Congress to pass legislation "to give the economy the boost it needs."

Way to go out on a limb there Obama.

"Groundbreaking" is if his new hypoallergenic pup twitters from his dog house.

Why is videotaping the radio address that every president does and putting it on Youtube 'groundbreaking?'

People, Obama winning is cool, and he could be a good president, but PLEASE get your heads out of this guys ass.

PLEASE!

I see election boosterism has met it's end. Let snark reign again!

I predict that in a year from now (November 2009) people will be highly disappointed to learn that Obama won't do a lot change (or change at least that will benefit the people).

This new president will be a continuity of government, when will people understand that the President Executive position is a *puppet* position for the real government (The Federal Reserve, The Bankers, the Corporations, Goldman Sachs).

The Government is run by the bankers!

it is groundbreaking because no president elect, or president, has done it before. its still just a video on the internet.

@#6, there was a plant behind Bill Clinton when he did his "I did not have sex with that woman" spiel. Those plants are deadly.

This is just the type of shit the cult of Obama supporters eat up.

"change.gov"
how did he get that url? can i register "sendmeallyourmoney.gov"?

@Billy and whomever edits these entries:

"In the brief four-minute weekly response Democratic response to the president's radio address"

I've read this passage a few times and still can't figure out what it says.

Finally: AIG gets $30 billion? Why?
