Fire at "Notorious Crackhouse" in Bed-Stuy

2008_11_474fire.jpgEarlier this morning, the Fire Department responded to a fire at 474 Greene Avenue in Brooklyn. Brownstoner has some more details, as a neighbor explains many residents have been concerned about the brownstone, "a well known crack house that has been in operation for at least 3 years," even trying to work with the Brooklyn DA's office, NYPD and community leaders "to no avail." The neighbor says there had been a late night party and pointed out the windows of had been covered with sheets, "Clearly we are all in immediate danger when people are living without electricity, using candles and making crack." The fire was put out and the building essentially gutted.

  • Pull My Finger

Damn! Now where am I going to get my crack?

  • Jerky

You mean I can't open a bar in the East Village without getting harassed by the Community Boards, but I can run a full-on crack house in Brooklyn for 3 years and the police won't even bust it!! And I can do it out a place that would cost $10 million in Manhattan.

Jeez, all of us in are in the wrong business!

SNOOPY, they are waiting for the black people to leave.

It's only six blocks from the Pratt campus. It's an up and coming neighborhood I hear. All those people who want affordable housing, where are they now?

Because only brownstones in gentrified neighborhoods are expensive. I think Bed-stuy has some of the cheapest rent in all of NYC, but thats prolly because it's full of crackheads.

  • Billiamsburg

How can these crack addicts afford an entire brownstone and I'm still stuck in a studio??

  • JacqueMehoff

    God Bless the interwebs.

  • matty

Crack parties are the best parties.

Maybe Bed-stuy artists will start doing crack ironically.

Well done FDNY. But next time could you make your response a tad slower?
