Yesterday marked a somber anniversary: The seventh anniversary of the American Airlines Flight 587 crash. On November 12, 2001, the Dominican Republic-bound plane had taken off from JFK Airport; turbulent air led the co-pilot to use the rudder to keep the plane up, but the rudder broke off. All 260 people on board - 251 passengers and 9 crew members - were killed when the plane crashed into a quiet residential neighborhood. Five people on the ground were also killed. Mayor Bloomberg said at a ceremony at the Flight 587 memorial on Beach 116th Street in Belle Mead, Queens, "Our hearts are still heavy with grief. The memories of those we lost still vivid y nuestro amor por ellos sigue fuerte."

Bloomberg should STFU!
why? this event was truly tragic, and somewhat obscured by 9/11 happening a month earlier. just because they're dominican doesn't mean they don't deserve to be remembered. it was just as horrible to die in that plane as it was to have it crash into the WTC or the pentagon or a field in PA.
i think it's horrible that no one really acknowledges the people who died on the ground. it's horrible that all those families died on the plane but why does no one think about the father who died in the house the plane hit? all in all, this was a tragedy in new york. no one will ever be forgotten.
Hugo- Why are you so ANGRY??
I never bought the official explanation for this crash. I still say it was sabotage (terrorism). Somebody cut a wire that made one of the engines suddenly go in reverse causing the plane to ""frisbee" thus cleanly knocking off the rear vertical stabilizer.
It is an absolute miracle the plane hit the ground at the angle it did wiping out only one house. There is a school right across the street too. As tragic as it was, it could have been a lot worse.
