Last Night's Action: Unfamiliar Face, Familiar Result

  • Rangers 5, Devils 2: Martin Brodeur had appeared in all but two of the previous 100 meetings between these two teams. The Devils needed a lot more than him in this one. The Rangers scored four goals in the second period -- including two during two-man advantages -- as the Blueshirts continued the dominance of their cross-Hudson rivals that they started last season. Nikolai Zherdev scored twice, and Michal Rozsival, Chris Drury and Lauri Korpikoski made up for Scott Gomez's absence. The Rangers had lost four of five games, though one of those was in overtime.
  • Knicks 132, Grizzlies 103: This is what Mike D'Antoni's teams are capable of. The Knicks hit a franchise-record 19 3-pointers -- including 4-of-4 shooting from Wilson Chandler. Even Zach Randolph hit one from downtown. Was this really the team that got manhandled by a Spurs team playing Roger Mason on Thursday? The Knicks are 5-3.
  • Pacers 98, Nets 87: What good is having Vince Carter if no one falls in behind him? Mr. Inconsistency Yi Jianlian went 4-of-13 from the field and just 1-of-6 from 2-point land. Carter had 28 points but somehow managed only one rebound in 40 minutes. Weird.
