Gay Marriage Licenses Available in Connecticut

2008_11_gaymari.jpgA month after the Connecticut Supreme Court overturned the gay marriage ban, the Constitution State began offering same-sex marriage licenses today. The first couple to get a license was Barbara and Robin Levine-Ritterman, who, the NY Times reports, were one of eight couples "who successfully sued the state to allow same-sex marriage." The Hartford Courant asked some residents for their opinions and many were pretty nonchalant--one said, "I don't think it's a big deal... I think the economy is a lot more important." Rep. Michael Lawlor (D-East Haven) said, "[Today] will come and go, and I think what kind of puppy Barack Obama will get will be a much bigger topic of conversation in Connecticut than the fact that several dozen couples will get married."

i told you guys that you can't stop gays from marrying. All this prop 8 shit is just a stopgap measure that's holding back the gay waves. Zac Efron will lead the gays to the promise land like John Connor did for the humans against the terminators.

Wait!
They are not concerned about gays *ruining* their marriages?!?! And the CHILDREN! What about the CHILDREN!?!?!?

You have to love the WASPs for minding their own business.
Brava/o to my peeps!

What kind of a puppy are the Obamas getting??!?

By the following year it was in elementary school curricula. Kindergartners were given picture books telling them that same-sex couples are just another kind of family, like their own parents. In 2005, when David Parker of Lexington, MA – a parent of a kindergartner – strongly insisted on being notified when teachers were discussing homosexuality or transgenderism with his son, the school had him arrested and put in jail overnight.

think about that: Because same-sex marriage is “legal”, a federal judge has ruled that the schools now have a duty to portray homosexual relationships as normal to children, despite what parents think or believe!

Businesses are often “tested” for tolerance by homosexual activists. Groups of homosexual activists often go into restaurants or bars and publicly kiss and fondle each other to test whether the establishment demonstrates sufficient “equality” — now that homosexual marriage is “legal”. In fact, more and more overt displays of homosexual affection are seen in public places across the state to reinforce "marriage equality".

This is about putting the legal stamp of approval on homosexuality and imposing it with force throughout the various social and political institutions of a society that would never accept it otherwise

it is not about equality, the are equal civil unions, it is about forcing their beliefs unto others and now they want to bully the mormons for standing for their beliefs

#7- you mean like how the religious right is trying to gain approval with religious freedom and religious equality?

hitler, we don't seek approval from man. we seek approval from GOD.

Coming to a CT courthouse near you: Unhappy gay divorces.

#10- god gave ronald reagan a gay son and he's going to give you one too.

gay people showing affection in public is not some rouse to support "marriage equality." when you and your heterosexual partner hold hands/kiss in a restaurant, is it to display to all those around you your passionate belief in heteronormativity?

or is it because you care about one another?

and if you don't like the idea of marriage equality because it will lead to gay people being being more open in public...then i think your real problem is pretty obvious homophobia.

Same sex couples in committed relationships with kids ARE just a normal type of family for a low percentage of couples throughout the world. Just like interracial relationships, may-december relationships, etc. What harm does it do to simply inform kids that there are all types of families? Contrary to what uneducated people think, kids don't catch "the gay." I knew I was gay in the 1st grade although I didn't have a name for it and didn't really think about it. But I did know that I had a crush on Jamie's boyfriend Doug who was in the 2nd grade. It wasn't until I was in middle school/junior high before fellow christian students told me I was hellbound because of the way God made me. Of course all you bigots already know all about that religious bigotry crap and how at some point we chose to be gay just like you chose to be straight. If I had been able to change away the gay I would have. Getting beat up, picked on, taunted, and physically threatened every day in the 8th -12th grade by all those good christians and their parents was so much fun.
