Locals Rant About Election Night Revelers

Straight from the front lines of gentrification comes the above public rant. Following the Election Night celebration, and arrests, it seems some of the other Williamsburg locals (artists and teachers born and bred in New York and Ivy League educated!) are lashing out against their fellow Obama supporters. The self-described "working left" advises the "trust fund Midwest spoiled brats" to stop using the new President-elect as a reason to "blow shit cocaine" up their asses, or something.

people are so dumb (looking at you ed new york), the word "hipster" has existed since the 1960s...hippies were considered hipsters!!! Anyone remotely artistic is considered a hipster. In short, the word hipster is derogatory and means NOTHING.

  • ed_newyork

Attention dumb hipsters, New York was cool before you got here, you're not setting any trends, just trying really really hard to be different.

    Mandatory Williamsburg outfits:

Guys - Beard and thick glasses, pasty pale sickly complexion.

Girls - straight-up ugly, but dressed so weird as to distract men in dark, smelly bars.

Now proceed to walk up and down Bedford avenue with your head up your ass.

  • debra88

I sense a need for new contributors. This is about as newsworthy as a scrawling on plywood in the Lower East Side.

  • shamanovsky

yeah, it is all too familiar

I am glad they are banning fist pumping.

  • markedman

oh christ, quit your whining. if property was damaged that is lame, but if the worst that happened was that you lost a bit of sleep, you need to get a grip. I'd say there is a pretty solid chance that I get to work earlier than you (7am), leave later (7:30 on the 5th) and my day is much more hectic than yours (working with hundred of middle schoolers) and I was celebrating/observing the scene until 1:30. Losing a few hours of sleep for a historic event never killed anyone. guess that's the difference between us state educated leftists and those ivy league leftists.

  • max_impact

haha another thing to SUPPORT the note:

(please note the fine mason jar, probably bought at Ikea)

if that isn't a fine mid-western moo cow hipster i don't know what is...the police must have taken her into custody thinking it was cattle gone astray.

  • blablanyc

I like how they are "Ivy League trained" and not Ivy League educated.

  • REALITY CHECK

Meanwhile, after celebrating, everyone else got on with their lives, and some even read the news about Obama's plan to close Guantánamo Bay and reverse hundreds of Bush's executive orders. Basically, stuff that's ACTUALLY IMPORTANT.

    Carry on, carry on.

  • NannyState

A hipster wrote that note and you all took the bait. No true leftist could care less about kids partying in the streets. And the whole "donate to hospitals and public schools" crap is snide: no true leftist believes in charity. That's what communal action is about.

  • max_impact

while a little biased the note is pretty well spot on.

The election was used as an excuse by many to damage property of others and disrupt people who, like myself, had to get up early and go to work.

If you need more proof check out these photos of one of the women who was later arrested.

    OBAMA WINS!

    "But who cares?

Games over-Let's go get wasted man

To the 7-11, to the liquor store

Let's party all night and party some more

The "Ivy League" ranter used "ur" instead of "your", am I the only one who finds that funny?

No, but you were the first one to mention it.

    Wisconsin State? University of Ohio?

  • algul_siento

The "Ivy League" ranter used "ur" instead of "your", am I the only one who finds that funny?

  • Clarice City

Besides, Ivy League only refers to an athletic conference. If they truly attended an "Ivy" they would know that.

  • Clarice City

For self-proclaimed Ivy League graduates their writing mechanics are rather poor.

  • bagelman

i thought that obama was supposed to usher in a post-hipster society

  • JacqueMehoff

I really surprised more of these "people" aren't mugged. I mean they're indifferent towards local minorities. they must have some sort of mugger repellent. from now on I'm assuming all hipsters to have money unless shown otherwise. I will accept the monthly bank statement as proof.

this is from my short stinct at a major media company almost everyone was from the midwest and have some connection to Michigan State, Wisconsin State, some school in DC. didn't see any Ohio state.

  • Rocknrope

This is why I despise both the old and new Williamsburg.

  • sinisterteashop

    Bingo #9.

  • rasputinsghost

    ROBBLEROBBLEROBBLEMARXROBBLEROBBLEBRECHTROBBLEROBBLE

There's nothing elitist about instructing certain groups of people where they can cannot live. Real egalitarian, guys.

  • chimera

wow, what ignorance and narrow-mindedness on the part of whoever posted that...

  • Steven

Enough of Gothamist pro-basis towards Williamsburg and the rest of Brooklyn!

  • hungryghoast

Most of the people I know who were born and bred NYers are the craziest, most coke addled people I know, actually.... But that's just me.

the "midwesterner" epithet is pathetic (and no, I'm not "from Ohio" or anywhere in Flyover Country... Just sayin, people tend to be people no matter where they're from).

Also: blowing shit cocaine up one's ass must be intense!

  • airtech1

Bunch of bitter Williamsburgers who cling to their rants and their religion (Brecht/Marx).

    Idiocy.

  • Qraymond

This sign is obviously a joke. No one name-checks their Ivy cred in a Marxist rant... do they?

I'm entertained that the writer seems to be making a distinction between blowing "shit" cocaine vs the quality stuff (s)he was on when (s)he wrote this tirade.

  • dr zippy

This sign is obviously bogus. No Ivy League grad would ever write "Ivy league trained". They might say "Ivy League educated" but, horrors, never trained.

  • citizenerased

I can't decide who to hate the most in this scenario

  • FrankMartin

I do get a chuckle everytime I read "Trustafarian"

  • Felix Hoenikker

Can anyone go Ivy w/o a trust fund these days?

You'll never pay off loans that size working for soup kitchens and such.

  • whitecastlerock

This whole article made me laugh... I love that these Ivy League trained "leftists" put a handwritten note on a bulletin board. They must be too busy teaching, counseling, and donating to do otherwise.

  • matty

I'm from the midwest (chicago born and raised) and I find midwesterners to be either neurotic about where they're from or totally embrace it (university of ohio swestshirts on sundays).

It's funny in new york how it's even worse. The artists who moved to williamsburg would rather shoot themselves then admit they're from des moines.

Considering Iowa is the reason Barack is where he is today i would totally reprezent!

    Midwest pride! Owwww!

  • PKinNYC

yeah stfu...I'm gonna go pee on your sign and then snort coke up my ass (or something like that)

  • TKaisen

    Trust-funders brats the MidWest? Really?

The lengths New Yorkers go to ignore the shortcomings of the assholes born in this state/city is stunning.

  • bklyngrrl

This is good but the Marx and Brecht reference is way over their head. Can you put it more in terms of American Apparel and binge drinking?

  • cmoney

Translation: we New York born and bred trustfund babies are better than you corn-fed trustfund babies.

  • SP

oh noes, disconnec is gonna delete his gothamist bookmark!!!one!

  • breaknight

I always found it funny how "Midwesterner" is always the worst insult we can sling at each other.

Of course, since I'm from DC, I find the insult appropriate.

  • spnder

    The honeymoon's over...

  • Felix Hoenikker

    Political theater??

  • disconnec

    hi gothamist

    guess what

    no one cares.

    deleting this bookmark. byeeeeeeee

  • camera_club

It was one night. get over it. (a damn good reason to get all wild in the streets and celebrate if I might add. we have a black president! c'mon!)

  • Duffy

Unfortunately they didn't teach the concept of 'Live and Let Live' in this so called Ivy League.

Williamsburg is many things to many people. Regardless of where their money is coming from, these "trustifarian celebrants" see something special about your neighbourhood as well.

Territorialism and knee-jerk defensiveness are unbecoming characteristics in rational, hard working adults.

You have more in common than you have separating you.

  • matty

kind of like that dipshit you posted getting arrested the other day, right jen?
