NY's Wish List for Obama

2008_11_obamaheart.jpgSenator Charles Schumer is wasting no time: He tells the Daily News, "Washington can't do what it did in Herbert Hoover's time and twiddle its thumbs." Noting how Obama said that states must be helped during this economic downturn, the senior Senator from NY says Obama should help New York with money for "affordable housing, transportation and help hiring for cops." City Council member John Liu, chair of the Council's transportation committee, added that a bailout is needed for the MTA, "It would be a small, small fraction of the $700 billion bailout of banks or anything they may be thinking for General Motors," while member David Yassky said, "The best thing is to invest in infrastructure that will support economic growth for years." Representative Jerold Nadler puts it bluntly, "We want as big a stimulus package as possible." Photo: jharriscohen on Flickr

Frightening picture. Cult of Obama symbols and messages are all over the city. George Orwell would even be shocked.

Frankly there are American cities in much more dire straits than NYC. Atlanta needs a new water system (ancient pipe system and drought troubles), Detroit needs a reset button, and New Orleans needs to be cleaned up as well.

By the way, what does that even mean? Make a shining example out of the New York way of life? You mean how I waited 45 minutes for a C train last week? Or are you talking about all the self-obsessed trendy folk running around. Or Perhaps paying over 4 bucks for a gallon of milk. Sure, New York has its perks...but I'm not sure if its the Shangri-La you're thinking it is.

Infrastructure spending isn't much of a stimulus. You can't vote to spend money on the right kind of projects (subways, commuter trains) and expect the work to begin soon enough to make a difference. If we lived in China we might expect speed in condemning and bulldozing neighborhoods but it isn't going to happen here. More likely the money will get wasted.

What an amazing period in American politics. What will be even more amazing is when Obama - hopefully - initiates federal funding toward these state economies that are getting killed.

Obama has inspired (most) of the nation, but will positive support continue over the next 6 months.

I’d wish to dive into Obama’s mind and discover his motives and internal dialog. To go through a year of campaigning is very difficult, but to go through a year of campaigning and deliver a speech like he did that is truly inspirational. I’m excited about to see how he really attacks global warming and the energy crisis.

What’s also fascinating is looking at the dynamic of who voted, how they voted, and what drove them to vote. Obama’s campaign created a wave of energy that grew bigger and bigger as his campaign moved forward, engulfing (in a good way) each supporter and supercharging them. How did they do this? It all started with a vision. Obama’s vision, planted deep within his mind, began to take root almost 2 years ago today. The power of his vision can teach every American citizen about how to accomplish goals using the powers of visualization and intention.

I looked into this vision questing further and found that many super-successful people have been using vision boards to help focus their mind and accomplish their dreams. A vision board is a collage of images pasted on a board that represent your desired outcomes, your goals, and dreams. By studying your vision board, your brain gains clarity on what is important to your success, the things you MUST accomplish. I found a site www.TheVisionBoardKit.com that allows you to download a free 8-step power plan to creating vision boards. I’d highlight recommend downloading it.

What makes New York so special from the rest of the country or other cities?

  • matty

Maybe obama can do a spiteful district by district analysis of who voted for him in the primaries and only fix the subway stations that are in those districts.

That's the way it's played in Chicago, why not the rest of the country?

  • dreamking

Not all of us - my district went almost 80% for Obama in the primaries.

Americans are making wish lists to the President as though their written with Jane Austen's quill on antique paper, scented with esssence of roses and sealed with the wax of ecumenical candles and a fire-truck red lipstick stain.

How about we go down the list and do what we did for the last 18 months. Campaign, campaign, campaign.

I think you should get nothing because you voted for hillary in the primaries.

I think the Obama administration could make a shining example out of the New York way of life. No other city in this country has as high a number of public transport commuters.

Invest in the infrastructure and promote transit commutes across the country. But start here first. Please. Maybe with a wet/dry vac down at track level.

Wish #1: Officially denounce the anti-gay ballot measures that passed in Arizona, Arkansas, California and Florida.

I personally believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. But I also agree with most Americans, including Vice President Cheney and over 2,000 religious leaders of all different beliefs, that decisions about marriage should be left to the states as they always have been.
