You forgot the "baggy clothes so it's easier to shoplift" theory, the "they take your belt when you've spent a night in the holding tank" theory, the "perfect for hiding weapons" theory. There have been poor people for generations in this country and they always wore clothes that fit. Not from wearing hand me downs. This is a prison style adopted by the masses. Why not attack hipsters who wear pants way too tight?

I believe the baggy clothing look came out of a prisoner life aesthetic. Prisons don't normally tailor fit their customer's clothing, so the one size fits all look became popular among the thug culture.

Hugo mego you always so insightful, fair and elegant! The whole fashion that blurs into the political statement of "I'm so ghetto" is just for kids (or non very grownup adults) That is, IMMATURE. I think fashion is transitory, but if the style is a badge for constant recklessness it just not cool. Time to infuse some dissonant resistance into the rule of some. The bottom line is Obama is supporting self respect and the only way to get to that is your own actions and own responsibility.

I remember yesterday when they were trying to blame him for saying he didn't want a "mutt" in the doghouse meaning that he was self-hating his bi-racial status. I agree that pulling you pants up lets police know who's a douchebag criminal. You guys don't realize why people wear oversized jeans and oversized t-shirts yet? it's really simple. They are poor. Poor people can't afford to wear fitted clothes because most peoples bodies change month to month. they buy the largest size possible to hide their body dysmorphic disorder. Also on the street just like in mother nature the need to look bigger than you are is a camouflage. The bigger jeans and bigger t-shirts make the scrawny guys look like they are bigger so they don't get picked on.
