A 29-year-old school teacher is dead and her boyfriend remains in intensive care after they were struck from behind by an SUV while jogging in Huntington Thursday night. The driver of the Dodge Durango that killed Amanda Malloy and seriously injured Vincent Saunders was Shea Rosen, a 19-year-old was charged with a DWI after cops said he smelled of marijuana, had pills in his sock and refused to take a breathalyzer exam at the scene of the crash.
The accident is the fourth in the last year for Rosen, who lives in an upscale section of Brookville. He ran over the victims while he was driving home after picking up a paycheck at the Prime Restaurant, where he worked as a busboy. The Post also notes that Rosen's Facebook photo features him giving the finger to the camera.
School officials at JFK Intermediate School in Deer Park had the thankless job of breaking the news to Malloy's ten year-old students yesterday. A relative of Saunders, a bouncer and martial arts enthusiast, said that he is "conscious, cognizant and aware of what happened" while recovering at Huntington Hospital.
This was one of two fatal accidents to take place on Long Island Thursday. An elderly couple in Massapequa Park was killed when they collided with an oil tanker while driving on Sunrise Highway.
