The road is for everyone: drivers, bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, public transit, joggers and emergency vehicles. You need to be attentive when you drive and thats that....

This kid had pills in his sock, was smoking weed and drunk; when youre stacked like that, its a lifestyle not a "one time in his life" and he had 4 accidents.

He killed a teacher and you are on here blaming this teacher for leading a healthy lifestyle. (I hate fucking joggers)

Anyways, you probably consider yourself the maverick of this message board for defending a drunk and stonned driver who killed a teacher...Way to go pal...

The one point which i will agree to is that it has nothing to do wiht social class and shouldent be brought into the argument.

First I would like to give my deepest sympathy for Amanda's family.

There are a few things that I would like to say.

1) No one should defend the driver, HE got loaded, HE got in the car, HE drove, HE hit these people. END OF STORY

2) Clearly this man shouldn't have been driving if this was his 4th accident in a year. This is probably the fault of police and law officials in his town, for not taking away his license.

3) Who cares how much $ his family has! IT won't bring Amanda back or undo what this guy did.

***I come from a family with lots of money, and it didn't help my brother out when he got arrested for Heroin possesion. My parents let him sit in jail for three weeks as a lesson before they bailed his ass out. He ended up with 6 months in jail since it was his first offense (no 'walk' for the rich kid). He is now clean and sober thanks to rehab and a family that loves him*

4) All you people on here arguing about who was in the wrong (the driver, the joggers) are idiots. A woman died, a man was severly injured and another man sits in jail. Seems pretty straight-forward to me.

5) Saying things like 'We all know people who have gotten behind the wheel under the influence' DOES NOT MAKE IT OK!!!!! Driving under the influence is AGAINST THE LAW!!!!

If this guy goes to jail or not, will be up to a judge and jury, not people who comment online. If he doesn't go to jail (which would be surprising), then he needs to go to treatment because he clearly has a drug problem.

Hopefully this will serve as a lesson to anyone who thinks about driving under the influence. again.

To the person defending the driver and those who don't like her, under whatever screen name, here's some quick moral math:

Woman adds to kids' lives by being a teacher = +

Stupid idiot kills her = minus

Stupid idiot hopefully spends the rest of his life in jail = + for everyone, - for his family and him

Sum total = net negative for everyone involved; let's not try to minimize tragedy out of sympathy for the perp's family.

The kid's stupid and a piece of shit murderer. If he was serving in Iraq executing civilians (which I think would be a rare occurrence) people would want his head on a pike, and rightfully so. 19-year-olds are stupid, but maybe they wouldn't be if we stopped assuring them we'd hold them to that level of accountability.

^ That's the problem "hello1234". Everyone makes mistakes. This asshole made three mistakes this year already before this one, one of which involved injuries. Clearly he didn't learn jack shit from the first three, and had to kill someone to "learn" something.

The sad fact that no one has brought up yet is that this brat will probably get minimal jail time, since his rich, enabling parents will get him off with some high priced attorney. I bet he gets DUI and maybe Man 2, and gets 3-5, out in a year. I only hope that Saunders files a civil suit and takes his family for everything they're worth.

I would never WISH that on someone's child. I only replied with harsh comments because of the harsh comments at the top of the post about chopping him up, or whatever they said. I really didn't mean for any of it to sound like it was Amanda's fault, because that's not at all what I think. There's no argument that he has ruined the lives of Amanda's family. He is in the wrong, and he is going to be punished. I just don't see why his facebook pictures and the town he is from have anything to do with it, and it's all people keep talking about. He has to live with himself for the rest of his life, so there's no need to keep talking about him as if he plotted to do this (even though getting in a car intoxicated is the most negligent thing a person can do). I feel horrible for all of Amanda's family and friends, but I also feel horrible for Shea's family, because his actions have ruined their lives too.

True, nobody should drive under the influence, but this could very easily have happened to a sober person, and it's really unfortunate that this kid's life is over just because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
