renters aren't subsidizing anyone. The higher the property tax the higher the floor for your rent and the higher the guideline board raises those as well.

The rebate was only something temporary that seemed permanent because the city could afford to keep giving out a nice reward for property owners during the boom times between 2004 and 2007. But now I think rescinding the rebate is a good idea in order to help get the coffers back in shape after taking such a hit. New Yorkers shouldn't feel such a sense of entitlement to "free" money.

I own a house in Brooklyn and I think a rebate would be a terrible idea. The money has to come from somewhere, doesn't it? We want programs, but we're unwilling to pay. Recipe for disaster. Bush was a schmuck* for sending out stimulus money. Obama should make everyone return it. * Bush is a schmuck for a host of reasons. I merely state one of them.

I don't get it. We want things to improve, but we're unwilling to give anything up? Tricky. But sure. Make him trim the cash from waste-of-money activities such as bridge renamings.
