Three Shot in Harlem Last Night

Three people were shot in Harlem last night around 10:00 p.m. outside the subway station at 145th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue. An NYPD spokesperson tells WABC that two women and a man were wounded; the women suffered graze wounds and the male victim—who is believed to be the intended target—was shot in the leg. Apparently, the two women did not know the man and were caught in the crossfire.

An off-duty police officer driving in the area saw the shooting and followed the alleged gunman after he got into a livery cab and followed him; police say the suspect was arrest at 132nd Street and Lenox Avenue. NYC the Blog was nearby and writes: "No one on St. Nicholas btween 144th and 145th reacted as you would expect one to if you heard three gunshots close by. From my vantage point I could see that people on the street kept walking, cars kept driving, and I heard no yelling or screaming. Someone asked me if maybe it was fireworks. 30 seconds later the first sirens could be heard in the distance."

Update: The Daily News reports that an off-duty transit cop, Jesus Diaz, 27, saw the incident from his car and followed the shooter, who got into a livery cab "with a .45-caliber handgun still in his fist. Diaz chased the cab about a half mile to Lenox Ave. and W. 132nd St., where he pulled it over with the help of cops in an unmarked car." The shooter surrendered.
