Knives Come Out for Palin's 2012 Chances

2008_11_palinc.jpg

Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin didn't rule out running in 2012 when asked about her future in politics earlier today. She said, "2012 sounds like years away. 2012 ... what will we be doing there, guys. Enrolling Trig in kindergarten and watching Willow get ready to go off to college. There are a lot of good things that will happen in 2012." And she told the town of Wasilla after her concession, "We're going to be just fine. It is a shining moment tonight in history. We do congratulate Barack Obama. It's a great night in history. But I'll tell ya, Wasilla - and everybody there in Alaska - I am just proud to be able to represent Wasilla. I am neither bitter nor vanquished, but very confident in the knowledge that there will be another day. "

But first, some bad things for Palin in 2008. Yesterday, Newsweek teased details in its special Election issue (on stands today) about the tensions between the McCain and Palin camps. For instance, Shoppinggate: McCain adviser Nicole Walls was "told ...to buy [Palin] three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family—clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus." Sources say that not only was the wealthy donor who bought the clothes "shocked when he got the bill," apparently "Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards." An "angry aide" told Newsweek the Palins were "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast."

And then Fox News reporter Carl Cameron spills his off-the-record (until now) guts on how Palin allegedly didn't know that Africa was a continent, didn't know the countries in North America, and basic civics. She refused help before her interview with Katie Couric and also, too, she could be really mean.

Palin heads back to Alaska to continue serving her first term as governor. Asked by reporters gathered for her homecoming about the allegations, she said, "If they’re an unnamed source, then that says it all. I won’t comment on anybody’s gossip, or allegations that are based on anonymous sources. That’s kind of a small, evidently bitter type of person who would anonymously charge something foolish like that, that I perhaps didn’t know an answer to a question.” And check out the video of Palin saying how she's disappointed in the media.

@71 - Unwilling, because its an assumption you make based wholly not on fact, but on your limited purview. Additionally, it's insulting to have to "justify" connection to any culture to a person who is not also a member of it. "Are they african enough for ya?" Rude.

  • NannyState

^ Shouldn't we all know who the leaders of Burkina Faso and Dahomey are?

  • Spirit of 76

Wow. Now who's making stupid assumptions here? Anglo, eh? And I notice you are unwilling and/or unable to address my point about the near-total ignorance of the African culture they supposedly identify with.

  • Rocknrope

Tell me why so many people whose families have been in the US for three or more generations are just plain Americans, not British-Americans, Irish-Americans, Swedish-Americans, Spanish-Americans, French-Americans, etc., but that label is unsatisfactory for African-Americans.

Sigh, spoken like a true Anglo. I know many Asian Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, and even Irish Americans who would disagree with you.

The election is over but the neo-libs can't get enough of the Palin hating. It's an absolute disgrace. The media, Hollywood and the cult of Obama will not be happy until she's crucified.

Do you have any idea what "neo" means? None of us are "neo" anything. We've been what we've been all along. You're much more likely to be a neocon. I'm sure you would have been so much more gracious in victory. Admit it, you would have been ten times more obnoxious than anyone has been here if Obama had lost.

African American is in deed a cultural identity.

Even-though it is not referred to a very strict parameters other than perhaps what others perceive on that identify, it DOES exist as an identity.

Some identity, considering how prevalent black-on-black crime and violence is. As for the rest of your post, I'm sorry, but I can't make heads nor tails of much of your writing.

Norwegians feel they don't have such strong identity...but that doesn't mean they don't have one. It is all relative to what you compare it to.

Identities(racial, gender, sexual, age) are constructs that the person elaborates with infinitum elements...I don't think YOU not having participated in that collection of elements (A LIFETIME) for a given person can evaluate weather the identity in deed exists or not.

How many "irish" now all the towns of Ireland to assume they are the real deal?

How many white people assimilate to other cultures and even call themselves whatever...

Your argument seems to be making quite loose assumptions from such complicated matter.

A person's cultural heritage has little to do with the stamps on their passport.

What cultural heritage? I remember listening a little while back to an older African immigrant upbraiding some so-called African-American teens and young adults. He said something like, "I am African. You are not African." He asked what they knew of their heritage. What came back was almost total ignorance. They couldn't name more than a couple of African nations. They knew nothing of African traditions or languages. They thought Africa was some sort of monolithic entity, unfractured by nationalism or tribalism. Their only real "cultural heritage" was hip hop. Tell me why so many people whose families have been in the US for three or more generations are just plain Americans, not British-Americans, Irish-Americans, Swedish-Americans, Spanish-Americans, French-Americans, etc., but that label is unsatisfactory for African-Americans.

Gotta hand it to ya, MFer, you had me goin' for a minute with the Greenland thing.

I was surprised that some sources not only included central america with north america (if it were the same thing why the different names?), but also some included little crime ridden terrorist stop-offs like Antigua as well!

But why is it that she makes me SO FUCKING HORNY?

  • The Colonel

@36 Maybe you're thinking of Busch Gardens in Tampa, Fla!

The Dark Continent used to be how they marketed it... but I think at some point they decided that wasn't too PC.

It is essentially of a mix between Duff Gardens, Epcot (just Africa-centric themed areas though) and a zoo (with mostly safari-esque animals).

"the fact of the matter is this. there wasn't a single respectable republican that would have ran for president this year. after the horror show of the past 8 years, it would have meant certain doom for his or her political career. this was mccain's last shot so that's why he ran."

And who's fault is that? ...is that difficult to see?

Implosion due to the party's home grown stupidity!

That is what should disgust republicans: its marshmellow leaders...but yeah blame it in those looking the mess Republicans are in from the outside.

at 53. i sure hope the republicans don't think their future lies with any of these guys on your list here. i mean, think of the clowns on your list that the republicans threw out there. huckabee, rudy, brownback, palin, fred thompson. it was a joke. the future star jindal sat on the sideline cause he knows that the nation is pissed at his party. all the future stars of the party sat on the sidelines.

this is the feeling of someone who can't stand the leftist crap that obama has thrown out there. if this if the future of the republicans then the right is screwed.

we need a new wave of republicans to balance out the left. too much power on either side is bad news. and none of the clowns that ran for president has a future in my republican party.

  • Rocknrope

Look at all the people who call themselves "African-Americans" even though none of their families have set foot in Africa in generations.

    Future talk show host

    yeah probably

She will never have any real power though

While she may resemble Bush in her act to the public

the biggest difference between the two is that she comes from nowhere, while Bush was the little price from the aristocracy.

She will never get enough money/people behind her to gain any real power

The farthest she would go is a run like Huckabee in a primary, thats about it.

  • MFer

... Greenland being province of Denmark, of course.

But just remember this gaffe from one of our previous VPs.

"We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe."

  • MFer

Hmm... how many countries are in North America? Tough question that one...

Actually, it is. Do you know? The answer isn't even close to 3. And even if you are discounting Central American countries as part of North America, you'd probably forgot Greenland.

    Now NAFTA is quite easy.

  • mfib

    Where's Hugomego?

    yeah, that's what I thought.

    Good riddance, Barracuda!
