Grand Jury Testimony in Subway Sodomy Case Begins
A special investigative grand jury listened to testimony from a man who accuses four police officers of assaulting him at a Brooklyn subway station. Michael Mineo claims that the officers, who were trying to bust him for smoking pot, pulled down his pants and sodomized him with a radio antennae on October 15. Though the NYPD initially denied the charges, the Brooklyn DA's office convened the grand jury, a transit cop came forward to support Mineo's claim, and the police suspended the accused cops. And today the Daily News reveals that the NYPD has had to shell out $50,000 to settle excessive force charges against one of the accused cops. The NYPD's comment: "The settlements were in the best interest of all parties."
