Deadbeat Walsh Can't Afford His Own Defense Lawyer

Taxpayers will now be footing the bill to defend accused Long Island murderer William Walsh now that he had to let his lawyer go since he's broke. Walsh said that he is not making any money as a stockbroker trainee and that he has no savings. For years as his wife Leah put herself through grad school and became a teacher, he bounced around managerial jobs at Charlie Brown's steakhouses, allegedly having numerous affairs and was accused of stealing from the chain. When Walsh arrived in court yesterday to face charges for the murder of his wife, he went out of his way to avoid eye contact with members of her family. Outside the court, Leah's mother called him evil and compared him to the devil.

Why isn't this POS being tried for 1st degree murder? Kills his wife, leaves her body in the house while he goes to McD's for a burger, then drags her into the woods and leaves her there to rot. scumbag.

I resent 1) the implication that a press outlet (especially with research abilities as feeble as Gothamist's can already determine this man's guilt...

nothing here has been labeled as fact (other than the fact he's a damn loser and broke), it's opinion and thankfully the US Constitution doesn't take that away from us.

I resent 1) the implication that a press outlet (especially with research abilities as feeble as Gothamist's) can already determine this man's guilt and 2) that even if he is guilty it's somehow an unfair burden upon taxpayers to pay for his legal defense.

It's been a while since I've read the constitution in its entirety, but I seem to remember something about a legal system where guilt was proven not presumed and where ALL are entitled to legal representation.

Call me a bed-wetting liberal, I'm just fond of that ol' dusty piece of parchment upon which we founded this land some 200 or so years ago.
