@lushintransit, i really have to think about it. I don't like discrimination of any form. It is hard for me to change my belief in marriage. Even in my church, they preach that what God creates is not evil or bad. therefore, even churches teaches that homosexuals are not bad or evil. I just feel that changing the definition of marriage is just too extreme. i don't know why but it seems extreme to me. again, I have to really think about it and thank you and others for their comments. Barack Obama is opposed to gay marriage but he said he was opposed to Proposition 8. Unfortunatly, because a much larger than usual number of black voters turned out for him Proposition 8 passed.

Without the larger than usual black vote, Proposition 8 would lhave failed.

Marriage between men and women, procreation and the raising of children has been the foundation of countless societies for thousands of years. It is the natural condition that is best for 97% of the earth's population. Alternatively, homosexuality is also a natural condition that has co-existed with heterosexuality all this time. However, not until this point has there ever been a perceived need by so many people that marriage needs to be redefined to include same sex couples.

If you can have a civil union that provides for all the benefits of marriage and have a have a wedding ceremony at your church and/or with family and friends, what does it matter whether the state considers you to be married as long as you consider yourself to be married and you have the same legal rights as married people? Why do you need the society to validate you this way? If you consider yourself to be married then aren't you? As divorce rates indicate, the state's involvement in maintaining a marriage is minimal. What binds two people together in a marriage is their commitment to one another and not the state. So being married is a frame of mind and a level of commitment between two people. The state only provides rights, which should be available through civil union.

I say live and let live. The only thing I don't like is the left wing trying to socialize me or my family. I don't need anyone telling my children it's admirable or desirable to be gay at school (taking them to gay weddings or having them write letters in support for gays people, etc.). Should my children be gay I will love them as much as I do now. But it's not my hope for them as a parent and I consider it to be a private family matter that shouldn't involve schools or the state.

I believe homosexuality at the 3% level is probably mostly genetic. However, if we look at history we see that socialization can result in increased levels of homosexual activity. For example, look at ancient Greece. Homosexuality was celebrated there and it would appear that it was practiced by a larger percentage of the population. This suggests that homosexuality in Greece was not entirely genetic, but was to some extent the result of socialization.

How early information is introduced to children can also be a concern. When children are introduced to sexual information at too early of an age, it can result in a hyper-sexuality. It's too much information and they don't know how to process it and may be more inclined to act out. Sort of like giving a child a loaded gun.

It's one think to tell a 14 year old we don't pick on gay kids, we respect them just like anyone else, and if you are gay then there's a school counselor you can speak to if you feel like you need support. It's underhanded left wing brain washing for the school to have this discussion with a class full of seven year olds and that type of stuff is entirely unacceptable. No stories about the kid with two moms during second grade reading time, etc.

#20 -- according to exit polls, 70% of blacks voted Yes on Prop 8 (compared to 49% of whites). Blacks were 10% of the overall CA vote and 95% of them voted for Obama. Black voters (esp. black women -- 76% of them voted Yes on 8), were overwhelmingly opposed to gay marriage. Seems to me that black voters were only interested in change and equal rights when it benefits them, screw the gay community. Anyone who's traveled outside of the San Francisco area or Los Angeles (the city limits) can't be too surprised about this. It's a conservative place. I'm glad I don't live there. SFGate has about 1,000 comments, many spewing hate in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The LA Times site has about 1,000 comments, too, many in a similar vein. SF and LA are oases.
