MOVIE: Featuring the Flaming Lips, Christmas on Mars is described as a "fantastical film freakout." The NY Sun (R.I.P.) once called it "a thrift-shop Solaris...that would please fans of Eraserhead-era David Lynch." As you can see, Wayne Coyne (pictured) is an Obama fan--so he'll likely be in a good mood tonight at the screening (he'll be at both the early and late show).
7 and 9:30 p.m. // The KGB Complex's Kraine Theater [85 E 4th St] // $10
EVENT: If you wanna see "people doing strange things with electricity," head over to Dorkbot-NYC tonight. "The meeting is free and open to the public. Please bring snacks to share. Featuring the polarized and kerogenic: Michael Mandel: MajorMiner, Alison Lewis: Fashion and Craft Tech for the Masses, and Luke DuBois: Hindsight Is Always 20/20."
7 p.m. // Location One [20 Greene St] // Free
PERFORMANCE: A mysterious collaboration between Bessie-Award winning dancer/choreographer Nancy Bannon (The Pod Project) and Tony Award-winning designer Brian Mac Devitt (The Coast of Utopia), Puncture takes over the Chocolate Factory starting tonight. Here's what we know so far: "Puncture is set inside a vast polar landscape which completely surrounds the audience – including suspended blocks of ice and pools of water, conjuring the dynamics of a melting ice world...One by one, each performer is removed from the work, constructing a symphonic narrative on the fragility of life and the certainty of loss." Time Out NY's David Cote calls Bannon's work "a mesmerizing exercise in interactive theater...an environmental circuit of privacy, intimacy and voyeurism." – John Del Signore
7 p.m. // The Chocolate Factory Theater [5-49 49th Ave, LIC, Queens] // $15
SCIENCE: This time around, the Secret Science Club brings biologist (and biosphere expert) Tyler Volk of NYU to the podium to discuss “CO2 Rising: The World’s Greatest Environmental Challenge." Don't forget to sip on a Hunk of Burning Love (the specialty cocktail of the night), and stick around for a Q&A with Volk.
8 p.m. // The Bell House [149 7th St, Gowanus] // Free
