No Pipe Dream: Michigan Votes For Medical Marijuana

110508weed2.jpgIn addition to approving a measure that loosens restrictions on embryonic stem cell research, Michigan voters also approved a medical marijuana ballot measure yesterday by an overwhelming majority, voting 63% to 37% to remove state-level penalties for registered patients using marijuana. But unlike other states such as California, the bill won't create legal dispensaries for the drug. Of course, not every one was for it: 20-year-old poindexter Claire Luczak, an uptight junior at the University of Michigan, said she voted against the proposal because "it would be too easy to get it. I know hundreds of people who smoke pot, and I think people would get it for recreational use and not legitimate reasons." And yesterday Massachusetts voters approved a marijuana decriminalization proposition that will make getting caught with less than an ounce of pot punishable by a civil fine of $100. yeah cuz that would be terrible

I think we should legalize weed for old people over 55. Young people don't need it but when I get old and something starts hurting I want to Schmoke some weed and get shome pushay.

The bud on that pic looks mighty nice...

"20-year-old poindexter Claire Luczak"
I smoke weed to ease the pain of my Poindextitis.

The county breakdown was very interesting, since even the most rural places were overwhelmingly in favor of this proposition. Go Michigan!

just a little for my cataracts

Legalize and end the recession. This crop, in all of its forms, could end a lot of woe in this country... and not just by smoking it.

If that's the defense, lets take the following (far more harmful) pharmaceutical drugs off the market so they can't be used recreationally:

01. Ambien
02. Xanax
03. Cough Syrup (with or without alcohol and/or
dextromethorphan)
04. Viagra
05. Tobacco
06. Vicodin
07. Adderall
08. Ridilan
09.

The government should do what they do in Amsterdam: Keep it legal as a means of control, and not enforce the law. But then they don't smoke to excess as Americans would if such laws would be relaxed here. Americans aren't very good at consuming in moderation. Just look at all the fatties and credit card debt we have.

@edEx MY GOD! NO!
Don't give them any ideas!
(ed. I think maybe Xanax should be first on that list and you missed Vicodin and Valium all together)

yes let legalize it in NYC, It will create jobs and will help us through these tough times.

"yes let legalize it in NYC, It will create jobs and will help us through these tough times."

As the fabulous furry freak brothers said: Dope will get you through times with no money better than money will get you through times with no dope"

The NY State legislature can't pass a medical marijuana law but Michigan can. I will purchase some non medical marijuana today here in NYC.

It's shocking how scary marijuana still is to so many. I do not smoke, but I know there are huge medicinal benefits, that it has the ability to ease real pain and suffering, but big pharma gets to make billions while addicting millions. Further, hemp is used worldwide for clothes, materials, etc. It could create jobs, bring better economic times to this country.

TooTallJeff, poindexter is a strong word considering you don't even know this chick.
