And forget about a conservative Supreme Court too, because Obama will likely get to make three appointments in his first term. The problem there is that the justices that retire are likely to be the liberal ones, so all Obama can do is maintain the status quo on the bench, which leans conservative right now. Too bad Sandra Day O'Connor couldn't hold on until next year.

Don't forget that on his watch, he singlehandedly managed to drive down the percentage of registered Republicans back to pre-Reagan levels. I'm totally convinced that Dubya is so deluded that he will go to his grave thinking he was a great president, that history will vindicate him and the country will eventually come to its senses about his wonderful legacy.

Bush was going bye bye anyway, so I don't see the point in chanting nah-nah-nah-nah now. They should come back and do it on January 19. How about that permanent Republican majority that Karl Rove bragged about, eh? Bush isn't even out of office yet and already the Dems have solid majorities in both houses of Congress and a black president-elect waiting in the wings. And forget about a conservative Supreme Court too, because Obama will likely get to make three appointments in his first term. It's enough to make me laugh.

Why are people citing classless behavior on the part of McCain supporters as a justification for (alleged) classless behavior on the part of Obama supporters? I voted for Obama in the primaries and again yesterday… I am so thrilled that he won that I can’t even express it. But I really hope that we can celebrate with class – as Obama himself is demonstrating. McCain lost, Bush is almost out. Let’s just cheer for Obama and hold ourselves to the high standard to which he holds himself.

Recognize the basics: everyone, EVERYONE, will be happy to see the door close on W. There is elation. He stole the election, stole the office of president, pissed off our allies, and made us a laughing stock among other nations. He sucked. I mean, he really, really sucked. If it was the private sector, his ass would have been fired long ago. But he was so awful that the people who worked to have his sorry self re-elected in '04 wound up voting for a black man to try to make it all better. Can you imagine how badly he had to suck to get folks in those states to vote democrat, when the democratis candidate was a minority?!!

actually, laying aside any sense of rubbing the results in 43's face and realizing that I was not part of that crowd and thus don't know their exact motivations, I think that standing outside the White House is a fine place to celebrate election night. That's our House, all of our's, no matter who resides in the East Wing. It and the presidency are supposed to belong to the citizens. People have the right to gather there, just as there was a crowd on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial last night. Maybe going there was just as much about a sense of ownership, of regaining what was felt to be lost, as it was about ouster or bitter anger. Maybe singing "hey hey hey, goodbye" was juvenile, but they were singing The Star Spangled Banner as well. I'm feeling a little idealistic this morning, so this crowd gets the benefit of doubt.

Bush was the worst president in history. He was so bad that America had to turn to a black president. Think about how bad you have to drop the ball to do that. Bush also fucked up the dignified way of saying "vagina". Now I can't even think of bush anymore without thinking about his monkey face.

Jaypea..you don't want to acknowledge the legitimate sense of resentment people feel toward the Bush Presidency. Numerous points in it's prosecution of the war were demonstration's of contempt for the public's "right to know" ..Tillman, No explicit Congressional Declaration of War, bribery of Iraqi officials, Abu Graib, WMD and so on. Florida and suspicions in Ohio..Obama's victory is seen a victory of the PEOPLE against Bush's contempt for the democratic process.

@Jen...that's a little different being that those people were at a McCain event. I mean, people booed McCain's name at Obama rallies all summer. Why people felt the need to go to the White House and display this type of behavior is beyond me. If Obama was your canidiate then you should be happy..he won. What does it say about you if you feel the need to go to the White House and act like children and rub it in the face(honestly, I don't even know of whom...Obama wasn't running against Bush) of your *opponent.* Is this really how *winners* should act? Is that how we want our children to act when they defeat someone? Sing songs and try to make your opponent feel as bad as possible. Again...win with dignity, lose with grace. I don't think that should be too hard, especially for adults.

@jaypea11--I know what you mean, but I think the heavily Democratic DC residents were just really excited that Obama was elected. Sort the way McCain's supporters were so upset and rudely booed whenever Obama's name was mentioned during McCain's concession speech.

More than anything, we needed change, grand, significant change. It is what the rest of the world demanded. Our allies needed to see that we learned our lesson. I know there are still questions around Obama's qualifications, but the message is loud and clear. The horrible 8 years will soon be behind us, and the new road is open ahead.
