Another Look at NYC During Election Night

Because we can't get enough of this historical event, here's another gallery of different presidential election returns watching gatherings and reactions from all over the city. Also: Our previous gallery, some more accounts of celebrating in D.C., and galleries of Obama's celebration in Chicago's Grant Park (1, 2, 3).

Frightening pictures. It reminds me of a Hitler rally or a scene from Dawn of the Dead. Absolutely bone chilling. May God save us.

I wonder how's Victoria Jackson feeling today? and that other one janine turner. what the hell, let's bring in dennis miller.

Are only the most sour and cynical people commenting tonight? Come on guys..

At the least, Obama will inspire people to be better.

At the most, well, the sky's the limit.

The Night The World Celebrated. No more Bush, no more Republican filth. For once, we can dream again. It's like the end of WW2.

Hugo:

I can see how the enthusiasm over Obama and our victory could be intimidating to people who didn't/don't support him. But consider this: whether you voted for him or not, Barack Obama truly has our country's best interests and best traditions in mind.

I urge you, since you don't have a choice anymore anyways, to give him a chance. Let's see, once he's president, how he does. Let's see what his policies are, and how they affect us. Let's see how, after a year or two, our lives are compared to how they are now. Let's see if Barack Obama can bring us the change we need. And if he can help us all find a better tomorrow, then what is there to oppose?

We will need your support, and the support of many Republicans, in order to restore America to her place of prominence, credibility, and honor on the world stage. And you will need us. So let's move forward together!

It's funny (or dumb) how repubs keep throwing out Hitler allusions. Just take a gander at Fox's commenters, over there the racists are spewing their 'Black House' crap. Yep, the party of censorship and executions, racism, war, guns, domestic spying, torture, anti-immigrant, tests of patriotism, USA/kill him chants and the exclusion of anyone different (gays, muslims...) is calling us fscists!

If this outpouring of hope and joy be fascism then I guess I'm an unrepentent fascist.

Here's something for the Palin hounds to chew on: over at fox O'Reilly does a bit about what McCain aides say Palin didn't know. She didn't know which coutries are partcipating in NAFTA, had to ask if Africa was a country or a continent, did't know what is meant be American exceptionalism. Apparently she threw tantrums when she read press clippings that left aides in tears. But I'm sure her fans would counter that it's not so important that US leaders know stuff. Just look at Bush.

Man, how hilariously bitter do you have to be to compare a joyous celebration to a fucking Nazi rally? The hypocrisy here is delicious.
I'm sure if McCain won and people were going nuts in East Texas or South Carolina or whatever, they wouldn't raise a tiny hint of criticism to it - after all, their candidate won.

You ain't seen nothin' yet. This is just the beginning for HUGO_MEGO. For the next eight years or more, you'll see nothing but increasingly hateful rants. Every perceived mistake from Obama will be a "disaster." In fact, if I were running the Secret Service, I'd start keeping a very close eye on him.

Well, the markets started tumbling the day after Obama won. Wall St knows what the deal is with his hostile business policies. Liberal NYC will get hit particularly hard - poetic justice. Careful what you ask for cause now you have it. Jimmy Carter on steroids, here we come.

@12 Yeah...The markets are tumbling because of the results of the election. The condition of the markets has nothing to do with the past 8 years of fiscal irresponsibility. All Wall St. knows is the days of unregulated looting and screwing everyone but the wealthiest 1% of the country are over.

Hey, you can always move to Alaska.

Spiritof76: You'll get your chance to keep an eye on all of us who don't agree with you! Just join Obama's "civilian security force". Jackboots included!

Jonathan: Will Obama merely "inspire" people to be better or will he mandate it? From his speeches, sounds like we won't have a choice.

TskTsk: You're right, we have to see what Obama will do before we judge our pre-conceived notions. But that goes for both sides! Ever ask Obama supporters what they think his policies are? No one seems to have the same answer! Scary!

NYCSniper: Some people will actually go out and help others because of that inspiration. Some people will be inspired to seek out public service themselves. Some people will be inspired to learn more about civics. Some people will be inspired to be more involved in politics. This is public empowerment. Why must some people always think in terms of rewards? I suppose though, some people will remain unhappy, skeptical, cynical, conspiracy-prone, and bitter no matter who wins.

Jonathan: I greatly enjoy volunteering. I get a thrill through random acts of giving. I just do not want the government mandating that I do so, or "persuading" me in any other way. Obama has planned "pay-for-play" according to his own words.

@ides_of_march:

Dude, Wall Street already knew Obama is going to win. Everyone knew. It wasn't a surprise.

Yesterday's numbers had nothing to do with Obama.
I am guessing they had something to do with 8 years of Bush.

Wake up from fantasy land. Politicians is politicians. The sheer volume of cash from big donors to his campaign is more telling about him than anything that came out of his mouth.
It sounds nice, though. Down deep, I'd like to believe in hope and change and public empowerment as much as I'd like to believe in Santa Claus.

I'm guessing it will be a repeat of the Clinton years, except there's no way he'll ever turn this deficit into a surplus.

Yesterday's numbers had nothing to do with Bush or Obama. It had to do with two awful labor reports that came out.

The AP had this explanation in their writeup for about an hour... then it was changed to say that the market was reacting to Obama's election, with absolutely no evidence to support such a claim. The original article -- by the same author -- even had a quote that said "This has nothing to do with the election". I guess it's all that liberal bias...

The market is totally reacting to Obama's election. It's the icing on the cake of all the other bad news.

I didn't vote for Obama only because I believe real change comes from getting rid of the two parties who got us into the mess we're in. But that being said, I'm still a patriot and will back the new President. All of you Republicans who claim to be patriots should do the same instead of being douches. The majority of this country elected Obama. Deal with it and be an adult!

i am still amazed that revelers busted out the national anthem in the east village.

Will Obama merely "inspire" people to be better or will he mandate it? From his speeches, sounds like we won't have a choice.

You're thinking of the wrong politician. Mikey Bloomberg mandates improvement.

I feel sorry for those who think the Economy is going to get fixed within the next two years, it's actually going to get worse. This is bigger then Obama, even he can't fix it!

Tuesday night was like the Ewok celebration!
