Last Night's Action: Missing Brodeur

  • Sabres 2, Devils 0: Some goalies take games off from time to time. Martin Brodeur is not one of those. But he didn't play for the first time in 57 games Monday, and it may have cost the Devils. Of course, the team didn't score, so Kevin Weekes can't take all the blame. The fill-in goalie allowed a late first-period goal and another in the third period. After only three shots in the first period, the Devils finished with 24 total, but they couldn't get one by Ryan Miller. They won't rest easy until they know how long Brodeur is out.

  • Islanders 4, Blue Jackets 3 (OT): The Islanders came close to not ending their six-game winless streak. But even blowing a three-goal third period lead couldn't cost them. Chris Campoli's second goal, 3:13 into overtime, averted disaster. Richard Park and Bill Guerin had the other tallies.

The Devils didn't show up for the first period last nite but Marty's not the only one out; Paul Martin, Andy Greene, Brian Rolston, Bobby Holik & PL3 are all scratched due to injuries. It's been a rough start this year...
