S.I. Priests Hope More Catholics Go Back to Church

2008_11_popediddy.jpgStaten Island Roman Catholic parishes are hoping to encourage Catholics to come back to the church in a borough-wide "parish mission." The Staten Island Advance reports that 35 "priests from the Redemptorist order, and one Augustinian, have taken up residence at two dozen parishes for the mission." They are trying to remind Roman Catholics that in spite of "sins," they are not "unforgivable." This includes women who have had abortions and people who get divorces; one priest explains, "Say you have a Catholic celebrity who gets married before a justice of the peace and then divorced. There is no need to annul that marriage because it did not take place in church. So even if that celebrity remarries, he is still welcome to receive communion." Well, that clears everything up! Semi-related: P. Diddy was seen dressed as the Ponitff for Halloween at Pacha.

Catholic boomers accross the country are quietly reclaiming their faith heritage. It's not only in S I.

  • HUGO_MEGO

They're shocked because it goes against their hipster beliefs.

Hardly surprizing. Christianity is based on the belief that all people fall short of the glory of God but have been redeemed though Christ. This is totally in accordance with the faith. Why are so many shocked?

No one in Staten Island is "unforgivable"? I'd suggest that Staten Island in its entirety is unforgivable.

#2 - I don't think the question should be "Is there a god?" but "why is god such a dick?" seriously, what is god's morality? Is he good or bad? is he the republican's version of "good"? Christianity is lame cause if all you have to do to get into paradise forever is to follow some stupid rules for a couple of conscious years then I'm going to tell you that it's a gyp. who's going to sell you a ferrari for a dollar? The key to Infinite Paradise should cost a whole lot more than what the church doctrines decree you should do. It's a pittance to pay. Even the subprime mortgage lending practices aren't as shady as promising a golden hereafter for all eternity just for going to church on sunday.

That's a tempting offer. But the local synagogue is offering free circumcisions and the Mormons have a 3-Wife Special going this week too.

I'm waiting to see what the Jehovah Witnesses are promoing before I sign up for anything.

All religions including Catholic give people a sense of the immeasurable dimension of experience and consciousness. Call it what you will.

Negating it is like cutting of your genitals. Eros is the affirmation of life. We live conflicted existential lives otherwise.

The point is not that religion is the answer in any way shape or form; but that we humans are inevitably becoming something that we don't yet have a clue about.

I am not religious. But I DO thing that humanity has a long way to go to fulfill it's vein projection of itself in a world that depends on our decisions.

translation: the church needs money so we'll just overlook the fact that you are a child toucher so as long as you put money in the basket.
