"Trick-or-Treat Bandits" Hit Long Island Home

2008_10_trick31.jpgTerrible trick: Police say that three men, wearing Halloween costumes, robbed a Merrick home. When the owner, whose wife and child were not home, opened the door, the robbers made their way in and struck him on the head. A police officer said, "As he opened his door, he saw he was about to be rushed, and he is rushed by Superman and two people who were following him." One of the robbers also showed a gun. The three men took cash and "went through other belongings", and then tied up the owner before leaving. The owner, who had a minor laceration to the hand according to WABC 7, managed to free himself and go to a neighbor for help. Nassau police are asking for people with information to call 1-800-244-TIPS.

This is a terrible lesson to be sending to Jimmy Olson.

The real Superman would have used his X-Ray vision to sort the cash from all the "other belongings".

I think it's surprising that this doesn't happen more often. I've never heard of anything like this, but a night when everyone's out late in costume and neighbors are opening doors for strangers is perfect.

Something about this incident really disturbs me and I can't put my finger on it.

This incident is really weird. It is the second incident to hit the area. Another one was a hostage standoff further south in the next town over.

That makes 2 major incidents in the area. It strikes me as being very odd a
