Serbian Beatdown Case Continues to Drag On

The case of Miladin Kovacevic does not appear to be heading toward the ultimate payoff many had hoped for--seeing him tried and sentenced here in the US. Kovacevic is the Serbian basketball player who was detained in his home country this week after what has been an incredibly drawn out six months of Americans attempting to bring him to justice after his brutal beating of a fellow SUNY Binghamton student. A Serbian judge has said that Kovacevic will be detained for at least 30 days there while they decide what, if any, charges will be made against him. But their interior minister says that doesn't mean that Serbian officials are willing to bend on the country's strict no-extraditing policy. The Steinhauers released a statement earlier this week acknowledging that “justice is taking its course,” but would not comment on Bryan Steinhauer’s condition.

This would be much easier if we sent Black Ops in to abduct the douchebag to bring him back, 'Mission Impossible' style.

Fuck Serbia.

"what, if any, charges?"

I don't get it. So, I can go bash a guys face in, crack his skull, and it's all good?

news to me.

I want to learn the Eastern European workout regiment. How come you never see Western European people with bodies like that? That dude's upper body looks just like Vladimir Putin's.

Kojak:

Well sure, fuck Serbia. And while we are at dealing with countries we are not happy with, why not fuck China or North Korea too?

Oh yeah, because they have the nukes. So we should just fuck up those who are weak enough. Sort of like this thug did to his victim. Yeah, we should definitely be more like him.

The main issue with this case is now that Serbia cannot extradite him (there is no such agreement with US and it would be against Serbian laws), and cannot try him for the violent crime that he committed either, because the US has not turned over the case and the evidence to Serbia yet.

So, he is now in jail only for obtaining a replacement passport illegally by bribing the consul (who is now also in jail). This is actually a big issue in Serbia and many people want to see this thug punished, and the government is under a great political pressure to move on with this case, but they really cannot until the US gives up on the idea of having him turned over and instead hand over the case to Serbian courts.

And they'll do a great job of punishing him, I am sure

I'm not aware of anyone from China or North Korea that came to this country under the status of a foreign exchange student, viciously assaulted an american student and then fled back home by the offices of his or her home authority. And there are many countries that have weak or no extradition treaties with the US yet have a desire to cooperate with the police here out of a sense of diplomatic and common human courtesy. Serbia is defiant and seething since their genocidal tendencies were hammered by our joint military forces. They want a standoff to prove to their own people that they have a smidgen of dignity left. They have nothing left but their own bitterness. Fuck them.

NannyState:

I don't blame you for being ignorant on this issue, after all, US is in conflict with so many countries, it's hard to keep track of all of them, right?

No worries though. I am hear to provide the info:

Comparing Serbia now to Serbia under genocidal regime of Milosevic is like comparing Obama to Bush. And, if you are thinking that Milosevic was worse than Bush, I'd like to remind you that Bush has done a lot worse things in Iraq than Milosevic has in the Balkans. It's pretty much along the lines of bombing the entire towns because "they are hiding the terrorists".

So, the Serbian version of a more liberal, more tolerant government is in power now, and while it is true that they have to make this stand on the legal issue to protect the image of integrity and dignity of the country in front of the more right-leaning crowd in the electorate, the truth is that someone like Obama will have to do similar things if he would want to get re-elected.

And on the subject of China, North Korea, Russia, etc... those countries have done a lot worse things than this... and I assure you, if some American thug committed a crime like this in Serbia and ran to US, he would not be turned over to Serbia either.

Just please don't tell me that there are no such thugs in America :)

Serbs apologize or show remorse? Ha!

They never apologized for initiating WW1 and all the attendant deaths and horror that produced.
They never apologized for the Seige of Sarajevo.
The Serbs have never showed remorse for the Massacre at Srebrenica.

But we shouldn't be too harsh with the Serbs. Their contributions to 20th century culture are unique, with the introduction of such linguistic additions as "ethnic cleansing" and military strategy like rape as a weapon of war.

thefacts:

The fact is that WW1 was started by Austrian invasion of Serbia. You do know that Serbia was a US ally in that war?

Cut the racist crap.
You wouldn't be able to to spew your hate if there wasn't for Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin.

Also, merely arguing that America wouldn't extradite a similar criminal in a similar situation does not bear on the argument at all. Ad hominem (or ad patria, I suppose) arguments detract from any debate.

Read a history book, you who are so quick to call everyone but a Serb a 'racist'.
WW1 was started by the assassination of Franz Ferdinand by three Serbian nationalists, or should I say "nut jobs". You think Austria invaded Serbia in a vacuum? It was to punish the Serbian terrorists. Already the Serbian lies start, a mere 9 comments in.

So, you gave us Tesla and who? Not too impressive. A nation that produced millions of people and the only real contribution was by one man. Hell, the Serb forces killed more babies than that in one hour in Sarajevo.

Anyway, I am out of here. Every time Serbia comes up on this blog, ixvnyc comes out of the woodwork calling everyone else a racist or Nazi or Ustasi. I don't want to have anything to do with you or your Serbian nationalists hooligans. I don't want my wife raped in front of my children, were I to lose this discussion.

He would have been a fine addition to the Gestapo...

rasputinsghost:

Serbia has a law against extradition.
US has a law against extradition.

How is saying the first sentence not "ad patria", and saying the second one is?

Oh, I get it: because the second one deals with America :)

thefacts:

I am not surprised you are not able to parse the history books considering the fact you are not able to parse my simple sentence, so let me explain to you:

I called ONLY YOU a racist. No one else.

I don't see how the WW1 is relevant to all this, but just to clear the facts:

1. Gavrilo Princip was not a Serbian citizen, was not born in Serbia and never lived in Serbia.
2. He was a member of organization called Young Bosnia (Bosnia was a part of Austria then), which was an anarchist organization (of Bosnia, and of Austria).
3. True, he was an ethic Serb, but it is unclear how would that fact determine that the invasion of Serbia was the correct way to deal with the anarchist/terrorist threat that he and his organization posed.
4. Especially considering the fact that Serbia offered full cooperation, short of allowing Austrian police to enter Serbia to investigate on it's own.
5. State of Serbia had nothing to do with the assassination.
6. If Austria was so right to invade Serbia over that incident, why did UK, France, and US then declare the war on Austria?

I do admit that Serbia is guilty of the most recent Balkan wars, but in WW1 it was in the right.

Again, I don't see how any of this is relevant.

Unless you are a racist trying to prove that Serbia always has to be in the wrong, just by the virtue of being Serbia and of the Serbs.

If the Serb gov't had any sense they would arrange an "accident" for this piece of rat turd. The US should impose sanctions.
