there's a homeless shelter in Randall's island? did not know that, I thought there's one in Ward's island. at least that was way back when I helped prepare medicaid apps at a hospital. most used the general post office for mail.

A lot of NYC homeless have jobs but sleep in the shelter system. A lot of the people you see riding the subway with you are homeless but they're dressed for work. Just take a ride out to Randall's Island and find out. The idea that the homeless population of this city are all crackheads is a racist fantasy.

bloomberg doesn't care about people unless they're millionaires and CEO's. of course, he'll blame the victim for being homeless and give a snide remark. I hope his daughter is doing well with the horsies, that's some dangerous competition there.

The primary cause of homelessness is gentrification, which immediately or eventually reduces the number of lower-priced rentals available to poor people. The homeless cannot even hang around the tonier neighborhoods now; they're shipped to Bedford-Stuyvesant. But it's nice to see that some things haven't changed, like blaming the victim and bureaucratic self-congratulation.

"NY Magazine had an article about how homelessness is the "single biggest failure of the Bloomberg administration." Is it Bloomberg's fault there are people who foolishly put themselves in the gutter from drinking, drugs or gambling? These aren't the only causes of homlessness, of course, but many people have themselves to blame for their situations.
