Get Ready for Mischief Night

2008_10_polcars.jpgNYC the Blog learned that an after school program in East Harlem canceled today's programs "due to advice from the NYPD and school officials." The 25th Precinct "has been receiving leads them to believe their will be heightened gang activity by the Bloods Gang today in East Harlem, between the hours of 3-5pm." And over in Brooklyn, GerritsenBeach is calling tomorrow "D-Day", remembering the mischief on Halloween 2007: "A large crowd of teens pelted vehicles with eggs. It was like a firing range; buses were hit on both sides as they drove by." The patrol cars were also hit. The NYPD's website only reminds parents about trick-or-treat -related safety tips (PDF).

be careful on the 31st. There is a major initiation rite for the bloods tomorrow. If you here someone yell 08, as in oh-eight, duck, run and get the fuck out of the way.

the kids are slashing, robbing and beating up unsuspecting citizens. get the word out...

  • Splicer

So if there is going to be increased Bloods activity why won't there be increased undercover police activity to round up the trash?

  • GM

Yeah, Rocknrope. Don't you remember what happened to Amadou Diallo? I don't know if there is a special unit for dealing with high crime areas anymore.

  • Snoopy

The FDNY and the NYPD are two opposite gangs. When they will get together in the future is anyone's guess.

When you need immediate assistance call the FDNY, when you need grief and a lot of worthless paper work call the NYPD.

a tip of the hat is to never ever enter a mcdonald's, burger king, or wendy's at 2-4 pm. That's when school lets out. It's fucking pandemonium.

  • ribaldry

fuck the bloods. they can suck my fuckin dick. i dont care if you're in a gang. fuck with me and I will end you.

When I taught the attendance for Halloween was usually about 30% of usual. Parents were afraid to send their kids to school because they knew we couldn't protect them.

  • Offbalance

NYPD should get the NYFD involved.

Nothing stops an egg fight cold in its tracks like a blast from Mr. Fire Hose.

  • lanciano

Good grief. This is still going on? Why can't everyone just dress up like hos and pimps and be done with it?

Back when we were NYC public school kids, we were always scared to go to school on Halloween. There was a lot of rotten egg tossing (the bodegas in the area stopped selling eggs to minors around Hween so the eggs were old.) Mostly I was afraid of the kids who would come in with Nair to smear in people's hair. For some reason this was my worst nightmare back then.

(That and throwing up in public. But I got over that in college.)

  • JacqueMehoff

no kidding, hearing those Devil's night mischief puts nyc any night to shame.

  • MT

Yeah, A&P! Let's all join Sparkle Motion and be happy!

  • robingee

At least it's not like Detroit, where people set 147 fires all over town.

  • Apples and Peaches

That explains why all those kids were buying eggs at the Compare Food Market yesterday--I thought they were just going to make a huge omelette.

Seriously, wtf?? Are we in 1994, who is in a gang anymore? Dance teams are way more hip.

  • isn't mischief night every night for these thugs?

  • Rocknrope

What's with all this gang activity in NY? Goddammit, we need our own Strike Team a la The Shield to deal with this misanthropes.

  • JacqueMehoff

    AKA afterschool on any weekday.

  • r1b2

Let's hope they weren't students of Cornell alum Steven Clarke at the Global Enterprise Academy in the Bronx. Then they'd be proper animals.
