Why Did Cops Release Man Who Says They Sodomized Him?

102908mineo10.jpgThe Brooklyn man who says police sodomized him with a radio antenna after he resisted arrest at a subway station is still in the hospital, and subpoenas have been issued to six witnesses who support his claims, including bystanders, friends and a roommate who took him to the hospital after the incident. Two witnesses believed to support the NYPD's sodomy denial—a token clerk and his 12-year-old son—have also been subpoenaed, the Daily News reports. Earlier this week, a special grand jury was convened to look into the explosive allegations.

Lawyers for the victim, Michael Mineo, have yet to release his medical records, but they've been busy arguing their case in the court of public opinion. They're questioning why police let Mineo go with just a summons after he resisted arrest and forced cops to chase him. Police sources tell Newsday that the disorderly conduct summons has mistakes, and states that officers identified him by his New York State public assistance benefits card. But according to some accounts, Mineo was not carrying I.D. If that was the case, NYPD guidelines would have required the officers to arrest him.

And if the accused officers had run his I.D. through the system, they would have found two warrants out for his arrest: one for failing to appear in court after being ticketed for drinking alcohol from an open container, another involving a stolen credit card case from 2003. One of Mineo's lawyers, Stephen Jackson, asks the Daily News, "Why wasn't he charged with resisting arrest or assault on a police officer? The likely reason is because they simply wanted the whole thing to go away."

Clearly those cops bungholed the arrest.

An able bodied man carrying a New York State public assistance benefits card? 2 outstanding warrants on him? Fuck him...

The more this guy's lawyers reveal about him, the more I hope he was assaulted.

The teeth and throat tattoo on his elbow is kind of interesting...

All I notice on this guy is the open mouth on his elbow...

irregardless of the man's appearance and past misdeeds, he did not deserve this abuse. We can not stand for this abuse, you might be the next one the cop butt fucks. really this is sick that we have NYPD doing worst things than criminals.

The public assistance benefits is for more tattoos since he currently doesn't have enough.

The ass you save could be your own.

#7 Irregardless is not a word... Some of this dick's past misdeeds include assaulting someone, knocking their teeth out. Fuck him. He is a scumbag. This wanna be tough guy was looking for trouble, looks like he found it.

OK, I don't usually bother pointing out grammar or spelling errors here, but this same mistake has been made in two posts now by to different Gothamist writers so: it's not 'a radio antennae.'

Antennae is a plural form, and only when 'antenna' is used in the biological sense. Insects have antennae. Radios have antennas. A cop's radio has an antenna.

#11: irregardless, their awl spelling it write.

'irregardless'

There is no such word. Select again.

the point is do we want these types of sickos in NYPD? #9 is so right. the ass you can save may be your own. These cops are not NYC finest but sickest. They must be in the closet or something if they like sticking objects into asses.

irregardless is a term meaning in spite of or anyway, that has caused controversy since it first appeared in the early twentieth century. It is generally listed in dictionaries as "incorrect" or "nonstandard".

I am more concern about NYPD sticking object into asses then this word but I pledge not to use it. Would NYPD take the pledge not to butt fuck people anymore

http://mw1.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/irregardless

"usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead."

And I agree, I think I'm a little more concerned about the possibility of cops shoving a radio antenna up my ass instead of whether or not "Irregardless" is a word.

Okay, so copying and pasting from the internet to justify ignorance is approved practice. My mistake for ever bringing up the notion that "irregardless" isn't a word. Educated people don't speak like that-I forgot who the audience is here.
Back to the topic at hand—
I am very concerned about the police doing their job properly. If anything I am really annoyed this piece of shit was a free man in spite of 2 warrants...

There's no such word as irregardless.

This Mineo guy is a douche bag.

Louis CK once did a bit about how if he could go back to 1930s Germany he would rape Hitler rather than murder him, the logic being maybe he wouldn't have done all that genocide stuff after having been anally violated.

If this guy was actually got an antenna up his bum who knows how many lives these cops may have saved.

so you condone police sick behavior. How can people police others when the watchers/police are the sickest. All they had to do was arrest him. Why rape him. What sort of sick person sticks objects into someone's butt. This is why people have no respect for NYPD because of such sick acts.

"Irregardless" he needs more tattoos.

the stuck a pen in his butt while waiting in the police van. case closed. this time the cops are innocent.

I can't believe anyone believes that someone deserves to be sodomized. Really? That's sickening and sad. Also, unless you know him, can you really make claims such as "he's a douche?" Lay off.

So far the police appear to be innocent. This guy is pretty shady and I wouldn't be surprised if he is in cahoots with Al Sharpie Sharp Sharpton.

@whitecastlerock would it be better if I pulled out my dictionary and typed it in manually? Irregardless, you're wrong, accept it.

And no one deserves rape, IF this did happen, I hope there are penalties for those responsible. IF it didn't happen, then that man needs some serious therapy.

@wooden_shoes, l don't care. Type it here, print it out, then shove it up your ass. Irregardlessly, you are a troll...
