The cookbook author who's locked in a vicious legal battle with Jerry Seinfeld and his wife Jessica says the Bee Movie star's "jokes" at her expense on the David Letterman show last January scared her and her daughter. In court papers filed Tuesday, Missy Chase Lapine—who is suing Jessica Seinfeld for stealing her recipes for sneaking vegetables into kids' food—reveals that she was emotionally devastated by Seinfeld's comments, which compared her to notorious killers with three names like Mark David Chapman, John Lennon's murderer. "I have never felt so frightened and vulnerable as the day my daughter, 7 years old, came home from school and asked, 'Mom, what is an assassin?,'" Lapine says. "I started feeling scared. I thought I made a big mistake talking to any reporters because now this billionaire is angry and attacking me everywhere."

I hope she gets a boatload of bucks from this.
Seinfeld used the media to defame her. It was a dirty trick to use his connections to get on letterman with the sole intent to spew libelous comments while barely defending his wife.
seinfeld = overrated, overpaid douchebag clown
Jerry Seinfeld is the devil.
This woman had to expect some publicity would result from suing Seinfeld's wife. That doesn't mean she deserved anything that anyone said, but playing the "but the children!" card is a little ridiculous.
I also don't think anything in Seinfeld's appearance was defamation.
"emotionally devasted by comments"?
give me a break. teach your kid what a joke is and move on...
#3 is right; Missy Chase Lapine needs to do a One-Woman Show.
"Signed, crybaby Jerry Seinfeld's lawyer!"
I don't know if there is any merit to this woman's legal claim against Seinfeld's wife, but even if there is, her comments about feeling "scared," "frightened," and "vulnerable" are bullshit.
To use gimme's words, this is an "overrated, overpaid douchebag clown" we're talking about, not O.J. ;-)
This woman is either paranoid, batty, or playing up her so-called trauma to garner sympathy in court. Probably all of the above. Hell, she'll probably sue Seinfeld himself in a few years when her daughter asks what "sponge-worthy" means.
I first heard the three-named-assassins gag at an amateur standup night sometime in the late 1980s, and I think it was already old.
And what's the deal with that airline food, anyway?
She had a legitimate lawsuit with regard to the cookbook. It was her idea, plain and simple. During which time Jerry Seinfeld went on the media circuit to make fun of her and hurt her name.
The man has a lot of money but no "sense" (get it!?)
and I think that she has good reason for a lawsuit. Just cause the guy is rich doesn't mean he's above reproach.
I think she's got a good case against him. Plagiarism aside, he went on TV and made false statements about her. That is slander. He could say that it was just his opinion or a joke, but it's only a joke if it's funny. It wasn't funny.
Hey fukkheads: Jerry Seinfeld is one of the most conscientious NY'ers to ever live. He's an excellent neighbor and a great guy. Don't hate him because he's a success while the rest of you morons are anonymous losers.
You azzwipes are definitely not sponge worthy.
But what was exactly false? That she had three names? He did call her a "wacko".. but is that really defamation? Certainly seems to fit under opinion to me, and you can't defame someone with an opinion.
I agree that the infringement suit has merit.
"I started feeling scared. I thought I made a big mistake talking to any reporters because now this billionaire is angry and attacking me everywhere."
Well, you poke the 800-pound gorilla with a stick at your peril.
That said, Seinfeld is certainly not as funny as he used to be. The proof is in that abortive Microsoft ad campaign only a month ago. Although he did manage to make a killing at $10 million for doing two commercials, so maybe he's just crazy like a fox.
She didn't realize how funny his Letterman comments were? Some people just never get comedic genius.
i would srsly pay to feel what "emotionally devastated by Seinfeld's comments" feels like
I've always admired Seinfeld and loved his show, but seeing him defame Lapine on Letterman left me utterly disgusted.
He should have kept his mouth shut. Now he needs to pay out the big bucks.
