The Philadelphia Phillies have beaten the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 tonight, winning the World Series four games to one. This is the Phillies' second World Series, their first being the 1980 win over Kansas City. Tonight was actually the second part of Game 5: The teams started Game 5 on Monday night, but the MLB decided to suspend the game due to rain in the middle of the sixth inning, with the score tied at 2-2. Tonight, the Phillies and Rays completed the remaining 3 1/2 innings, with the Phillies victorious, 4-3. Pitcher Cole Hamels, who won Game 1 and pitched six innings of Game 5, was named MVP (he's also the NLCS MVP). The Phillies are also the Mets' current division rival--the Amazin's have a bit of work to do!

They still are the worst team in the history of professional sports with over 10,000 losses.
If not for the Mets' horrible relief pitching and worse clutch hitting the Phillies wouldn't have made the postseason.

You mean the "Tampa Bay Rays"
Pathetic. Your team didn't win this year. Move on.
Kevin- love the logic. Is this right? 'My favorite team has significant flaws; the team that beat everyone is not very good.'
Nice. Losers.
Score one for Toby Von Negativity.
But really it is never about how many times you lose, it is about when you last won.
Mets and Yankees are chumps. Phillies are champs.
Are the Phillies owners going to thank the fans by raising the ticket prices next season?
I love baseball and other sports, but it's getting harder every season to be a fan of a team when all the owners care about is soaking the pubic out of money.
and we care why??
"Pitcher Cole Hamels, who won Game 1 and pitched six innings of Game 5, was named MVP (he's this season's National League MVP)"
Hamels was the NLCS MVP, not the NL MVP. That hasn't been announced yet.
"If not for the Mets' horrible relief pitching and worse clutch hitting the Phillies wouldn't have made the postseason."
If, this, if that. The spoils go to the team that actually wins, not the one that might have or should have.
Anyway, Los Mets can move to Tijuana for all I care.
Philly got hot at the right time and won the Series. Good for them. The Mets are just great pretenders-mired in mediocrity... They aren't even lovable losers.
Not fair Kevin Walsh!@ I love the Mets (and your website too). However, the Phillies made it all the way, so why not just congratulate them and get over it.
Congrats to the Phillies. However that was a really boring World Series.
This was an incredibly dull World Series. Aside from hard core Phillies fans, no one watched it, not even the Rays' dilettante fans.
SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORTS!!!!!!!
#13 - the last 1 and a half games were good.
Congrats to Phillies fans. As a long-time Mets fan, and one who will still support them after 2 years of end-of-season failure, the Phillies were the better team when it counted. Everything else is just metaphorical sour grapes.
The Phillies win. THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE PHILLIES WIN!
New Yorkers really don't care who won the series. It's similar to a few years ago when it was the Mets and the Yankees in the world series. Very few people in the rest of the country really cared.
The Phillies were doing God's work: no team called the Devil Rays can ever win a World Series. Move them to a cold climate where people actually show up at the park and give them a proper name, goddamnit.
WWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTT! I thought I'd never see a Philly win in my lifetime.
