The ME's office said that two brothers, fatally shot by two police officers early Sunday morning, had been shot in the back. The NYPD says the shooting appears to fall within departmental guidelines, because the police were fired upon when they came upon a brawl outside the RJ's Place, a club in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. Police say brothers Dwayne David and Kayshawn Forde were armed and had ignored the cops' orders to drop their guns. Still, David's and Forde's mother said, "My question is, Why were they shot in the back if they were shooting at police? I want answers from the cops." (The police say the men were trying to run away.) Mayor Bloomberg said, "What I'm satisfied with is the investigation that's being done right now. And until the investigation is complete, nobody really knows what happened."

At least one of the perps was firing into a crowd, over a joint.
Do the math.
The Mayor is right, there are too many illegal guns in the city.
PITY. But shooting them in the back, though I doubt it will have any repercussions for the careers of the cops (I don't want their jobs), is stupid and low. Even John Wayne waited for them to turn around. Shooting at fleeing criminals could easily lead to "collateral damage." All of the people out there in front of RJs were humans, and if you wouldn't shoot like that in central park on a crowded day, don't do it in Brooklyn.
^ I disagree. This isn't the movies. If a man with a gun unloads into a crowd, then fails to stop and drop his weapon, and instead turns to flee with the gun, then deadly force is appropriate. If they're violent enough to shoot into the crowd indescriminately, who knows what they are capable of if they get away.
Obviously I don't know the full details, but since both men were fatally shot and noone else was hit, it seems that they were standing/running away from the crowd, together.
Shoot now.... ask questions later.... that's what anyone would do if they were actually in the situation. Move too slow and you are dead.
My condolences to Mrs. David/Forde.
This is absurd. If you are brandishing a firearm in NYC, at all, the police should be able to shoot you, it's that simple. I have zero sympathy for people who use firearms in a threatening way in public.
"My question is, Why were they shot in the back if they were shooting at police? I want answers from the cops."
Because you're a terrible parent who raised two criminals, who thought nothing of bringing out a firearm to settle a dispute. Because people with firearms roaming the streets of Brownsville is a threat to public safety.
Don't want to get shot by the police? Don't play gangster and pull out a weapon.
I don't like the racial tone this thread is heading.
Just unbelieveabel thsi police shooting is even being questioned. unreal. two perps shoot into a crowd, let alone are carrying a loaded firearm. As someone stated that is reason enough to get shot. Some people associate the real life with th emovies too much. Those cops had a right to shoot...what do you want them to wait until the perps take another shot before cops can return fire.
These perps had a gun and already used deadly physical force. At that point it is kill or be killed for the cops who did exactly what they are paid to do. Protect innocent people from criminals like these two twins.
I agree, the mother knows where to find the se answers...take a deep look inside and ask how you raised them to be that way. Easy to throw blame at the cops for dealing with a problem you let get out of hand (them resorting to guns)
Many states have a "Fleeing Felon Act" that enables cops or even civilians to use whatever force is necessary to stop a criminal from getting away. This action by the NYPD was perfectly appropriate and it would be a ridiculous standard to set, to insist that cops hold their fire until a perp is facing them. This isn't about 18th Century chivalry, it's about dealing with dangerous thugs.
And #8, the only one injecting race into this is you.
Will some people ever learn to take blame for themselves instead of finding an easy way out and blaming other people?
The two brothers had a loaded firearm and flat out ignored the cops order to drop the guns. What are the cops suppose to do? Sit back and wait for them to shot a bystander or them?
When you brandish a gun in a public confrontation, you are declaring that you are willing to escalate that confrontation to a point where someone could get killed.
There's always the chance that that particular someone might turn out to be you.
So I find it hard to be sympathetic here.
Dumb & Dumber are now Dead & Deader.
GOOD.
You know something ?
I cant belive thats the owners of this site would even post such garbage. To acutually sit and post the stupid crap that some of you are typing here just makes me wanna puke.
How Dare you sit and make a mocary of two young men loosing their lives Death is tragic nomatter what the situation, And to sit here and post this garbage and comments about them is an outrage did any of you idiots ever stop to think that maybe the mother of these young men might happen across this site just as all of us did and read this, I really hope she does and sues to shut down this site this is absolutly rediculous. Did anyone take the time to wonder why the boys had the guns in the first place your so blind to the reality of people who actually live in the neiborhood and what it meens just to servive in Brownsville and many other places around the city your pathetic.
Did you ever think ,,i meen it was a club .."hmm lemme use a brain and think " maybe the guys felt their lives were in danger and went to bring the beef to the table and had no meens but to have it out with whomeever they had the beef with and unfortunatly the police just happen to come up on them,, or maybe someone called the police there in fear of retaliation. I meen its not like the police especially the plain clothes are out here doing real police work anyway. out of the 3 pcts in and around Brownsville only 45% of the cops do, The rest just bide their time, make thier quotas and thats about it.
Dispite the laws that are suppose to be upholded by police they break most of them themselves
but im sure you wouldnt belive that now would you ,,,nooo nooo im sure you wouldnt because in your perfect little world you can hide behind a computer with the belief that all police are just good old top of the mornin to ya me boy and eager to get out here and help the public to the best of their ability and stop crime and all that crap and that makes your life sooo perfect.
But the reality is Laws of NEW YORK City tend to be flexable in some areas and not in others ,,well as long as there are no cameras to shed light on it ..and the problems of these neiborhoods are not my problem becuase its not in my backyard. well whatever, so if you dont have anything smart to say just STFU.
Shooing Over a joint how stupid can you be
as far as having a gun its everones constitutional right to bare arms but what you fail to remember is that the constitution as well as all the laws that gov. this state mees nothing if you feel in your heart that someone is trying to kill you. I meen what were they suppose to do Call the police for help ?
Pfff Good luck with that one,,I also find it kinda strainge thats everytime theirs a shooting neer a club thats involves police ..whay is it that there is always conveinant that there happen to be plain clothes officers there hmmm oddd you do the math as someon so elequently put is i would expect them to be out doing police work not hoving around a club of teens .
Dispite what you think my heart goes out to the family of the young men its a tragic loss of life in any event.
