Last Night's Action: A Giant Win

  • Giants 21 Pittsburgh 14: This was game that lived up to the hype. Both teams left it all out on the field and at the end, the Giants won because they finally took advantage of the breaks the Steelers kept giving them.

The first five times the Giants reached the red zone they settled for less than a touchdown. Four times they settled for a field goal and once they turned the ball over on downs. But, their defense was giving Pittsburgh fits. In the fourth quarter with Pittsburgh driving, the Giants forced an interception and converted into a field goal to cut the Steelers’ lead to 14-12 and setting up the critical sequence in the game.

On 1st-and-10 from their own 30, Pittsburgh went backwards, losing 12 yards and being forced to punt. But, their regular long-snapper had left the game earlier with an injury and the backup snapper airmailed the snap over the punter’s head and out of the end zone for a safety. New York got the ball on the kickoff at their 47 and punched in a touchdown with a seven-play drive. The defense did the rest and the Giants improved to 6-1 with a game against the Cowboys coming up.

  • Jets 28 Kansas City 24: Do you look at this game and say the only thing that matters is the win, or do you look at it and wonder why the Jets almost lost to a terrible Chiefs squad? Brett Favre threw three interceptions, but he also led the team on the game-winning drive with time running down in the fourth quarter. Laveranues Coles made a great catch to provide the winning score and the Jets escaped. Next week they have a much tougher test, a trip to Buffalo, but they head there 4-3.
