I think the mother went to the hospital, saying she wanted to see the baby she left there. The hospital couldn't find any record of the baby and reported it missing. Cops went to mother's house, as part of the investigation, and found the baby there.

Ahhhh...now I get it. The mother reported the baby missing from the hospital, but in actuality she never even delivered at Kings County. At first I was going to rail against Kings County hospital for losing a baby, but that's not the case. Perhaps a more accurate headline is Baby Reported Missing From Hospital Found Dead.
