NYPD Cop Killed While Serving in Afghanistan

2008_10_dtaylor.jpgThe family of Deon Taylor, a police officer who was serving his second tour in Afghanistan, is now grieving his death. The Humvee that Taylor, serving with the Army National Guard, and two other soldiers were traveling in was hit by a roadside bomb. The 30-year-old Brooklyn resident was a narcotics cop, working undercover at Brooklyn North, had an 8-year-old son, and was planning an August wedding with his fiance. His uncle, a 20-year veteran detective with the NYPD, Mo Weathers said, "He wanted to do the right thing." The Daily News reports that there are "258 police officers currently on military leave"--Taylor is the third to die in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Regardless of what one thinks of military intervention as a viable means of ousting the Taliban and Al Queda from Afghanistan, the loss is very sad indeed.

Agreed. My heart goes out to his family and fiancee.

Condolences to the family. May he rest in peace.
