McCain Reveals Elitists are in NYC, DC

During the second part of his interview with the Republican ticket, NBC News anchor Brian Williams asked Sarah Palin to explain, "Who is a member of the elite?" Palin characterized them as, "Anyone who thinks that they're better than someone else." (Full transcript here) But then McCain chimed in, laughing, that he knew "where a lot of 'em live... in our nation's capital and New York City." The exchange starts at about four minutes in, after talk about Williams Ayers, the washed up terrorist McCain supposedly doesn't care about.

The Daily News got clarification from Rep. Peter King (R-Long Island), who said McCain wasn't talking about "real New Yorkers... He's talking about Park Ave. and the upper West Side, which is inhabited by the liberal socialites and the media types who, yeah, are certainly elitists," plus a barbed response from Senator Charles Schumer, "Men in Gucci shoes who have seven glass houses should not cast stones."

The New Yorker has an interesting article about how Palin made overtures to the media elite after becoming governor. Of course, that was the conservative media elite, so that's different, right?

"If Michelle Obama wishes to eat 500 bucks worth

    of food she earned it,"

Yeah, from her salary at the hospital where her husband tried to earmark some bucks to...

    Keep the change.

Ah Palin is the one who pilots her

own plane in snowland, that's about like the expense

    of keeping race horses.

If Michelle Obama wishes to eat 500 bucks worth

of food she earned it, she ain''t Elliot Spitzer

after all who had his daddy paying for everything.

George Bush had a golden spoon with his families

money when he was born ditto Palin's pregnant

teenage daughter,by the way I guess the wedding

of her child is on for thisMonday night, for ratings?....Nah!

    McCain Palin =Elitist?

I prefer Chi-town trash that says we all have to sacrifice, while Momma Obama wolfs down $480.00 worth of iranian caviar and lobster from room service at the Waldorf!

    (I wonder if they tip...)

  • Jen S

After the election, we really need to take a look at the red states. What's going on in there? Do they need more vitamins or something?

  • NannyState

Those two have only just begun to disgrace themselves for the sake of a cheap vote in Louisiana. NYC and DC attract the best and brightest which explains why Palin is in Alaska and McCain still pretends he's from Arizona.

I am one of the native New Yorkers who are

elite, I volunteer in my free t time to help Parkinson's patients walk, eat, bathe, and take care of Business.

    Seriously,

since when is it conservative run for the VP in a mini skirt?

    Who ARE these people?

They are not liberals, they are not conservatives...

they are fucking mutants or something. All of this fear mongering is going to be so passe after the Halloween.

  • jackdonaghy

    #39,

I agree. The b.s. notion that people from big cities don't serve in the military and aren't patriotic is vile. I'm surprised local politicans aren't more vocal about rebutting these insults.

  • Kevin Bracken

Well it's not like people from New York or DC are going to vote for them anyway. File this under "grass still green."

  • RevWaldo

I occurs to me that Barack Obama is in the same position Dubya was in back in 2000:

A large portion of the electorate fears that he has a hidden, unspoken, extremist agenda, while another large portion of the electorate kinda hopes this is true.

  • everyAframe

    >>dear god.

    >>what happens if these crazies win??

    WE EAT THEM.

  • pierrevonbaron

I don't really mind if Palin/McCain want to call me elite. It's silly, but oh well. Constantly eluding to the fact that we're not "real Americans"--that bothers me. Do they actually believe this BS or are they just "saying anything" to get elected??

  • jackdonaghy

#36, by McCain and Palin's definition of the word elite, then they are guilty of being elitists since their attitude is "well, I'M covered by governmental health care, why should I care if you don't have health insurance? What is this a socialist country?"

  • piknyc

Do her skirts keep getting shorter?

  • Huffy6241

Palin characterized them (the Elite) as,"Anyone who thinks that they're better than someone else."

Doesn't that make her and McCain "elite" as they think they are better than Obama and Biden?

  • Mr Mel

Lynn de Rothschild and Sarah Palin were separated at birth.

  • SP

If the crazies win, I'm moving to France, my favorite socialist elite haven. And I'm not even kidding about that.

  • mzungu

    dear god.

what happens if these crazies win??

  • Shinobi Shaw

This is almost as laughable as when LADY LYNN DE ROTHSCHILD went on CNN saying she was changing party loyalties due to the fact that she thinks Barack is an Elitist.

This coming from a woman who is married to a billionaire banking dynasty (a Baron to be more specific).

    @Dirk

More like 2010, taking into account McCain's existing health issues under the grinding pressure of the presidency...

  • JRod5417

The Republicans can subvert logic because the GOP appeals to a base group of voters who are nothing more than low-IQ sheep. Only an idiot would think that someone who got into an Ivy League university by merit is an elite (Barack) whereas someone who got in thanks to Daddy's connections (W) is an average Joe (Six Pack or Cool or Plumber, pick a Joe).

  • Dirk

    Palin doesn't care... she's thinking about 2012!

  • kapusta

the definition of "Elitist", "an ignorant bitch what doesn't know it's cunt from a hole in the ground is given $150,000 to spend on flashy, tacky clothing". why? because she "thinks" she's better than everyone else.

  • everyAframe

So sadly obvious that Palin has been to some kind of "fold your hands like this" finishing school for middle management women.

  • shovel

I'd understand if Republicans shrugged and said, "I agree we have two cretins running on the ticket, but they reflect my beliefs more than the Democratic candidates so I'm voting for them anyway." I'm only astonished that anyone can actually look UP to these two, or pretend they are viable options as opposed to just maintaining figurehead status (or much worse) for business as usual.

  • jackdonaghy

Just like the term patriotism has been misused during the past 8 years, now the term elistism is having its meaning twisted.

The bottom line is that this polarizing bullshit has to stop NOW. The GOP loves to prey on vulnerable, uninformed mobs. At the same time, the GOP loves to strike the nerves of those of us in larger cities who happen to think progressively and act tolerantly of all ethnicities, races, and religions. The notion that because we read newspapers and books is somehow held against us. Regardless, if the blue collar/working white class (whatever the hell that invented phrase means) throughout America actually did their homework and evaluated each of the platforms, the Republican would lose most of its "base."

What more needs to happen before people wake up and get tired of this bullshit? The GOP offers NOTHING unless you're wealthy.

  • Shinobi Shaw

This is laughable coming from them, yes it's true that many of the Elite of the US live in New York's Upper East and West Sides. However it's hilarious that two of the Elite puppets are talking about it like it's such a bad thing when they are bought and paid for by SAID Elite.

    Pot meet kettle.

  • spiritross

Anyone who thinks they are better than someone else?

    What

Like a woman that thinks if you aren't white christan and pro-life you don't deserve any rights?

  • cts11

What I don't get is, don't you WANT elitism in your leaders?

If we need a military mission to happen, do we want Private GI Joe to do the job, or some elite Seal team?

When we have a natural disaster, do we want the chairman of the Arabian Horse Association to manage the response, or do we want some elite tactical team with amazing operational capacity?

Shit, when we send athletes to the olympics, do we want weekend warriors or elite professional athletes?

What's wrong with elitism? I want THE BEST people in my government, not the MOST NORMAL. I sure hope they do think they are the best, as long as their goals are to serve all Americans, even the NORMAL ones.

  • Amanda Harletsch

Supremasist Nationalism that picks on the portion of society that is educated as not "true" patriotic... 40's Germany anyone?

  • BaxterJ

I think someone needs to buy Palin a dictionary.

  • babyhitler

they are trying to say that "ELITE" is bad now? I always thought that elite meant "the best of". Leave it to the republicans to say that we should throw away the opinions of people who have a superior intellectual status because they are smarter then us. I find it hilarious that christians pray to god but go to their elitist educated scientifically trained doctor for treatment.

  • MikeAM

    Tingo, that is so true.

  • UnrepentantFenian

Oh, and Ashley Todd is a liar.

  • tingo

We all know NYr's aren't what the GOP consider "Real" Americans. "Real" Americans are the ones who work blue collar jobs, own guns, get their hands dirty. They live in places like Idaho, Utah, the deep south. They proudly display flags. They put their country first - as long as it's the country they believe their God promised. They live in compounds, underground bomb shelters, and trailers. They resist pressure from outsiders or elitists. They believe in one power - their God, and will follow the word of their God to the letter, no matter what the cost, or who is hurt in the process. Yes, "Real" America is what the Republican party is appealing to, and fighting to preserve. "Real" America is a very scary place indeed.

  • lanciano

    What total TOOLS !

I wish some people in the media would start writing about McCain's body language when Palin is answering questions. He looks like he's scared shitless (rightly so) of what's going to come out of her mouth next because he knows she is a farce. I can just about hear him saying "oh shit oh shit" the whole time she's running off at the mouth.

  • MisterTissue

I think the good people of Boston, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Seattle, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Austin, TX should all be appalled at being left out of Mr. McCain's map of elitism. This is an outrage!

  • Guest

Exactly, Jen! Both sides are being played against the middle and it's killing America. No longer can anyone have an opinion within their specified political party that might be deemed different without fear of ostracism. It's always the middle that suffers when two polarized sides will not bend to compromise.

  • Amanda Harletsch

Why don't we call people that feed on fear terrorists?

Republicans are sooo feeding on fear!!!

  • MikeAM

I am from NY - not the U.W.S. but I am an elitist under the definition. I'm proud of that title. New Yorkers are better than others...there, I said it.

  • Kojak

Even though he will never win New York's electoral votes, McCain needs to stfu if he wants to continue fund raising in NYC. Considering how strapped for cash his campaign is, it is not wise to bash some of your largest donors, many of whom live in Manhattan.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

  • Amanda Harletsch

Lets pick the minimum comun shit denominator EVER and call it "american".

Those that think America is something higher, THOSE are the elitists!

Brains to make shit of all it all!

  • Jake Dobkin

It's pretty unfair that they call us elitist, and then we have to die for their stupid ass policies when New York inevitably gets bombed as a result of them. That's definitely adding insult to injury. Or injury to insult.

  • MisterTissue

John and Sarah, we're not elitists...we're just BETTER THAN YOU ARE. That's not smugness, it's fact. I have never once shot a moose from a helicopter and, y'know what, I gotta say, I think I AM a bit more civilized than those who do.

  • Amanda Harletsch

Hot FKN air: that's what is in Palin And McCain HEADS!

And they expect to be elected?! REALLY?

  • Jen Chung

Doesn't elitism cut both ways? The Republicans think they know better, the Democrats think they do...

  • matty

Face it New Yorkers eat this shit up.

  • killerasp

so having 7 houses, millions of dollars of assets, multiple pairs of $500 shoes and $1500 shoes does not make you an elitist?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elitism

  • Amanda Harletsch

    Terrrrorrrst terrrrrrrssts terrrrrrrrist.

what a fkn EMPTY strech their senseless strategy is.
